2000 DISCO II

ANYONE EXPERIENCE BRAKE FADING ON THIER DISCO? THE LR DEALER CLAIMS THIS TO BE NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE (ASSUMING THE BRAKING SYSTEMS IS WORKING AS IT SHOULD).

LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS.

JEFF

How many miles? Have you had rotors or pads replaced? NO NEED TO SHOUT. :-)

No brake fade, but they're notorious for a spongy pedal. I always give mine a quick pump once before I actually apply the brakes. The '03 models have a revised braking system (new M/C, software, etc) to give better pedal feel.

John/Greg,

I have 48K on on the rig. Brakes were redone at about 41K.

Perhaps Greg is right-maybe I am getting a spongy feeling when braking. Maybe now that the pads are not so new the feeling is more noticeable.

Sorry for shouting (I like typing in CAPS)!

Keep complaining and have them replace the MC

My 99 D2 was spongy right off the showroom floor. Nature of the beast.

My 99 was also very spongy. After a couple of trip to the dealer I just gave up. The story I got was that the vehicle is very heavy and the vacume assisted boost is just about maxed out due to the high weight thus the spongy feel. I do the quick brake pump before I need to stop and all is well.

It appears that the quick pump before braking seems to be an interim solution. (Let's hope we always have the time to pump once before we really need to stop!)

What effect does pumping the brake once have on the brake system? How does this help.

Ron-you mentioned changing out the master cylinder would correct the problem, but if the dealer is changing out the same exact part (short of the part being defective)wouldn't the result be the same (design "feature")?

As a note, my rig is at the dealer for service and they told be about the one pump trick.

Also, they gave me a '03 Disco as a loaner and I can attest to the fact that the brakes seem to be much better.

My 99D2 has 30K miles, and the brakes are spongy. I have been contemplating changing the rotors. They are somewhat grooved. Maybe I'll wait. I've been doing the one pump trick too.

The pump just gives you a better pedal feel, that's all. I've made emergency stops without pumping and it stopped fine. The pedal, however, had more travel then if it had received the "pump".

Greg, you have the "Pump"...don't even want to go there...My 2001 DII has had the "Pump" (MC) replaced and the slabs upgrade and it's still "Soft"...been that way 'since I got it...

I also have a spongy pedal, but after you tap once the brake are pretty good. I blame the software more than anything else.
