Hello all...

I am in need of a rock climbing partner if anyone is interested. I haven't climbed in about 2-3 years, but I would like to start indoors to see what my skill level is now and to see how strong I am. I would like to start soon and in the spring start going out to WV to possibly go off road and do some climbing as well. If anyone is interested, email me.

if i were living in Nova i'd love to do it. i've been looking to get back into climbing as well, been out for about 2 years. if i move by spring (which isn't all that unlikely), i'll get back to ya. :)

hehe.. 5.10 -5.11 was my best, just to let you know where i was. probably now a 5.7

you do free climbing or top rope?

i tend to stick with the top roping now, cause i know i'm gonna fall alot :)

I did both, but I have top roping gear (rope, webbing, couple of carabiners and a belay plate...lead climbing is way too expensive, esp. when you have a wishlist for your rover!) I usually just climbed with friends with lead gear and let them spend all the money!

i have a small rack for sport climbing and a few friends and nuts, but never got too crazy ($$)

the social climb is the best.. half the reason i go is to be in the woods and chat with friends, do a couple climbs and then crack some beers.

when the weather breaks we should get a discoweb climb together at coppers rocks. lots of variety there.

That would be so great...Have you ever climbed at Seneca Rocks? It's really good. There's a water hole to swim in after a day of climbing and being social. I think I still have my climbing guide for that site. Definitely would be a good idea to get people together.

i've been to seneca, the first day i had no guide and hiked to the top via the trail behind the rocks. i had a pack full of gear and tried to stumble onto a place to top rope, 3 hours later and drenched in sweat i reach the top and gave up on finding a climbing spot. 2nd day i bouldered around the bottom.

could have used a swimming hole that first day!

i never had the balls to first on something like that. i just dont have enough experience placing my own protection. now if i knew someone that climbed it and there were bolts placed and if they vouched for them i might try that. i've never been 600 ft off the ground hanging buy a rope before so i dont know what the mental effects would be. one of the reasons i started climbing was to beat my fear of heights.. it's alot better now but still... hehe, it can take over sometimes.

why the heck are we up so late anyway :)

I was up early to help a friend move. When I got home I napped from 4-7pm.. woops :)

Went and saw "it's a beautiful mind" and drank the dew.. Now I’m wide awake wondering if this is all a figment of my imagination

yeah...I know...but he's still a newbie to it. He just got it this summer, so he'll figure it out soon.

I've never climbed there, but I heard it was awesome! We should take a trip out to Bridge Day at New River Gorge. Let's plan it.

Hey all just came across this thread And thought I would chime in. The climbing In Seneca is almost all Trad But it is the best climbing in the area I make the trip there every summer from Indiana If you all havent been there I have a few of my favorites To get you warmed up there. and this is from memory so if you guys and girls are interested in more info Ill look it up for you.
There is a route called lower skyline direct (LSD) that is just beautiful 5.5 5.7 with exposure that cant be matched at its grade in the East The transition to skyline direct is awsome and once to the top you are on brodway ledge with many routes to the South summit . Let me know If you all go some weekend this summer I would love to meet some Fellow D-webbers for some climbing and wheeling.

Later Scott

That sounds cool, off-roading and rockclimbing is a good mix, do you know anywhere i can do that in California? Mostly northern california.

Hey Kevin,

Check out rockclimbing.com . They have links for all areas, so you may be able to find some leads.

You know one of the best places in the world to go wheeling and climbing is Moab. Go rock climbing early in the morning, once it gets hot go wheeling. I live in Salt Lake, if you want to go on climbing road trip let know.

Andy,
I live in Provo and agree that moab is great for what you just stated. I try to make a trip at least once a month in the summer. The sandstone creates an awesome challenge sometimes.

Anyone in MD...went to Earth Treks Climbing Center this weekend and it was awesome. I haven't climbed anything but the stairs out of my basement in about five years and got tired after 2 climbs! Anyway, if anyone would like to join me some weekend...let me know.

my parents are in Nova, so i visit a lot. next time i'm up i'll bring my gear. i'm sure i'll get burned after 2 climbs, but it'll be worth it to do it again.

Karen,

Earth Treks is in Columbia, MD and they've got lots of square footage of climbing up to 44ft and a cave. It's not quite as big as the website makes it out to be, but it's good enough. Went on a Saturday, had to take a belay test (they also have auto belays there) and had to wait for certain climbs sometimes, but not too long. They've got a couple of overhangs, chimneys, cracks, etc. Go to www.earthtreksclimbing.com. There are also places in Rockville and Alexandria called Sport Rock and Sport Rock II.

Joanna,
If you're looking for some random equipment really cheap, I've got a bunch. I have about 150' of dynamic line, a Wild Things "Expresso" harness and a few biners. I used them all in HS, but not since. They're just collecting dust. Maybe you'll want a spare set for a friend.
Also, I was at Great Falls this weekend and there were a bunch of climbers on the VA side of the river. That's a great place to get on the rocks without too much of a commitment. And you don't have to drive all the way to WV.

Patrick,
My fiance had his first indoor climbing experience this Saturday and he loved it...he just went out and bought a pair of climbing shoes and harness. He may want to take you up on the offer for the rope and biners to have his own gear...I'll ask him.

Great Falls has some good climbing, I plan to hit that this spring to get warmed up and back into action.

Thanks,
Joanna

ErikS,
I totally agree about the sandstone. Living and climbing in the east gives you no idea what sandstone is like till you go to Moab and climb. I am new to the disco thing but I mountain bike, going to Moab motivated me to buy my own 4x4. Anyway if you ever are looking for someone to climb with let me know. I live in the Avenues, just drop me an email. athoma@forsgren.com
