are you talking track rod bushings or tie rod/drag link ball joints?

XKS Unlimited used to have them for around $10 or so (non genuine). There might be others now.

xks unlimited? thanks. i am new to the range rover. my other truck is a disco 1 95 . anyway the mechanic told me it was the track rod. it has rubber around it and holds grease. he said it was the front one. i took a look too and it is the front rod. is it trak or tie. do trak rods have ball joints or nuts and bolts with bushings. anyway its the ones that hold the grease..anyone have a picture of the underside

FWIW .... drag link and tie rod have ball joints, track rod has bushings. sometimes the phrase "track rod" is mistakenly used for "tie rod". ...& for a pic...

actually troy, what you refer to as the "track rod" is the "panhard rod", and the rear rod you call the tie rod is a "tie rod" in the U.S. but is a "track rod" in the U.K.. check manual for verification.

never knew the brits called a tie rod a track rod... i learned something new. as for the panhard rod, i've always heard/referred to it as such or heard/used the term 'track rod' ... guess i'll stick to 'panhard rod' to avoid anymore confusion.

thanks for the input...

I thought the "tie rod" goes to the Pitman arm and the "drag link" is behind the axle and it goes between the two wheels! Not to beat a dead horse!

A. Ali.-
drag link connects to the pitman arm and "drags" (turns) the passenger wheel side to side. tie rod "ties" the two wheels together so they can turn together.

Eddie-
the rod with the bushings at either end is the panhard rod (what i was calling a track rod - honestly, i'd just dismiss "track rod" from your vocab) & keeps the axle centered side to side under the vehicle. the tie rod (behind the axle) and drag link (running from pitman arm to passenger front wheel) have ball joints on the ends (though, those are aftermarket heim joints in the pic ... not ball joints).

eddie,
the track rod has right hand threads at either end, the drag link has a left hand at one end and a right on the other. land rover painted the left hand side of the rod with a dab of paint, typically green but i've seen yellow, orange etc.. hope that helps
