This came on (the light in the left hand corner) this morning when I turn the green beast (DiscoI 95) on. What is it? Have had the truck for a few months so still debugging it. Thanks Dweb for helping me to troubleshoot... Lionel |

that's telling you the transmission is overheating. whenever that goes on stop driving immediately. ususally happens whith heavy tows or driving 75mph in 1st gear. |

Thanks guys, but how would the transmission (are we talking gearbox or transfer case?) be heating up after sitting a night in the garage? (the light came on on start). My disco is a manual with 187k on the clock and has just been driven for the past 3 days in 1 to 3 feet of snow (Denver/Boulder got hammered). Could it be that I just blew a sensor? Thanks, Lionel |

Hi Lionel My owners handbook states "in some markets the light will also temporarily illuminate as a bulb check when the starter switch is turned to position II" Does it go off when started? This is more common with auto boxes towing heavy loads, unusual on a manual. Pete S. |

Peter, Thanks for the info (you guessed I don't have the user manual). That was the first time ever I saw this light when turning on starter (I am a car freak and wouldn't be missing it if it happens). I drove 5 miles with that light on. stopped and turn the ignition off and on a couple times and it would still stay on. It looks like a temperature info but since my truck was ice cold, it doesn't quite make sense. Maybe coming in and out my driveway with 2 feet of snow caught a wire. Or likely too, there is a short due to the water underneath the truck. Does anybody know where the sensor is located? Thanks! Lionel |

The sensor is probably just bad. Tom |

Tom, Do you know it is underneath the transfer case or the gearbox? Lionel |

Hi Lionel The transmission/transfer box oil temperature warning light is grounded by the Automatic Transmission Oil Temperature Switch (X108) when the temperature of the transmission fluid exceeds 130C (266F). The warning light is also grounded by the Transfer Box Oil Temperature Switch (X174) when the temperature of the transfer box fluid exceeds 145C (266F). On Australian vehicles the warning light is grounded by a 3 second timer as a bulb check. You will find X174 on the left side of the transfer box (looking forward)and X108 on the lower LH front of engine compartment. Hope this helps, although this may only be correct for an automatic. If all else fails it may be a trip to a dealer with a testbook to reset or check this light. Pete S.

Pete, thanks for this very thorough info. I am now convinced, it is just a faulty sensor and will try to locate them based on your post (I am sure that I can find the sensors based on your info). Spring is coming on this side of the planet, so it is going to be a good time to do work on the Disco... Thanks Dweb! Lionel |
