ok, i called crutchfield up and they gave me two volkswagen adapters. one was actually a universal that i didn't end up using. I bought a sony cd player and installed with on $15 harness, ALL speakers work and there are no problems.
i simply wanted to post because there is so much confusion with the aftermarket head unit for this vehicle.
crutchfield's database contains all of the adapters and harnesses needed for each vehicle, they even had pics of a 95-97 disco....pretty impressive
the only other thing needed was to connect the color coded wires and purchase the $3 motorola antenna adapter, also through crutchfield.....peace

I'd love to hear more details! I just got my new CD receiver and antenna and harness adapters from them. They were adamant about getting that Pacific Digital or whatever adapter for $30. Did you not use that? Any info you can provide would be wonderful, and good work!

yep.....i have some noise when the engine is on...ie static. but i think that will be fixed when the wires are more than just twisted and taped....i will solder them once i get the rf modulator for my mp3 player
anyway, e-mail me if you have any questions, i actually might have to get a noise eliminator.....
also i still had some noise when using the $30 adaptor, granted though, in both situations i have only had the wires twisted and taped...

I used the PAC OEM-2 and the applicable harness. Everything - all speakers and subs and AM/FM - worked fine and the system sounds great.

*BUT* I too have the whine/static.

I have a question. The factory pink plug w/ red yellow blue green also had 4 black wires, I assume grounds. One of mine was cleanly cut. I fished the cut one from the harness and connecting it made no difference. Did you cut off this pink plug? and if so, how did you do the grounds?

Also, where do these grounds terminate? pass side kickpanel?
