Just had a fun drive up to Flagstaff climbing about 4000 feet in elevation on a highway. Almost to the end when a whine and grinding noise came from under the disco. Had it towed home to figure out next steps - has anyone else had this kind of fun? What am I in for? automatic transmission.. Thanks

www.roverlandparts.com

Free shipping on orders over $100, prices are really good too. Tell Robert that Jason from N. GA. referred you. I just bought a '99 Disco I Transmission and Transfer Case w/ 19k miles from them for $1575. Installation usually runs $300-400 at a shop.

http://car-part.com/ Is another good source for just about anything.

Just spoke to the shop and they quoted me $1000 just in labor to take apart the transfer case. Not knowing what parts are going to cost. Is this right? What can I expect in rebuilding the T-case?

Diagnose the problem first. Does it make noises while idling? Checked fluid levels? Crawled under and located any loose drive shafts or spot anything out-of-sorts?

Leslie,
did all that. No noise when idling. Only when in gear. I had it towed to the shop today and they gave me the quote to rebuild the T-case.
