Well, I just purchased a 1995 Discovery, V8, automatic transmission.... runs great, except when shifting from 1st to 2nd it seems to slip a little, it does not slip through the rest of the gears. The dealer said that "These Land Rovers all shift like that." Is this true? Or am I looking at a new transmission?

Mine does the exact same thing, so did the 91 RR I had, so did the 94 Discovery I used to own and when I had it I got it with only 10K on the clock. I think its more of a prolonged shift, not a slip.

My 96 Discovery did the same thing for the first couple of miles in the morning before the transmission warmed through. More of a slight hesitation between first and second shift than actual slippage. Switching to Mobil-1 ATF seemed to reduce the hesitation to the point where it was hard to notice.

I've noticed that when it accelerates the RPM doesn't always seem to stay consistant with the rate of acceleration.

Like if I hit the gas hard it seems to say rev up to 2500 sit there and the rover continues to accelerate and it just seems to stay at around that RPM until I release the gas, then it drops and stays at a dropped point.

Its really weird ... I'd think the was slipping but I almost just think the gauge is a little wonky. No noises, doesn't sound like slipping ...

Of course it seems to shift through all the gears and it doesn't drop the RPMs a whole lot .. but I guess when you are only turning 2000 RPM there's not much difference in the gear ...
