O.K guys, I'm looking for a weekend event (or more) to attend this year. I attended the previous RoverFest events and since it's cancelled this year, what alternate events should I sign up for? Can't afford the time to go to Colorado/UT, so how about an other east coast event? I'm in Michigan, so it needs to be about a day's driving away! We are a little challenged for good trials in this state - and I need to exercise my RR. Thanks |

The largest Land Rover rally in NA for the last 3 years has been the MAR in VA with 200 to 250 vehicles registered. 450 acre site with great trails, an island and lots of water crossings. First weekend in Oct. Might be worth the drive. |

The MAR event last year was GREAT. I haven't been able to get the dates for this year's event yet, but it's definitely worth the drive. |

well hopefully they have fixed a few issues that they had last year with Rover Fest. too many people on group trail rides caused traffic and confusion. PITA. still a good excuse to go to VT and drive a bit. MAR was nice. it is Oct. 5th. go here for more info on it. http://www.roav.org |

Is anyone even considering going ? Anon P.S. I heard a rumor that Kyle will be giving EXTREEEEME off road driving lessons this year . LOL |

http://www.vermontexpeditionsociety.com/kx/killx.htm I plan on going. The great thing is meeting folks on this board and sharing information in person over a quaility beverage. Anon you posted: "Will this be another Poseur Fest?" Well who gives a damn. Go and have fun. |

yes i have heard this too about kyle. something about wearing a one piece DiscoWeb uni-suit and driving around a Mary Kay Freelander? sounds really nice. lol. from the sounds of it they are not changing a whole lot. same deal as last......camping around Bear Mt. Lodge with use of the 'facilities' of the lodge. (bar, bathrooms, etc) sure they will have a similar trials course and the usual things. but like i said before i certainly hope they have the trail rides figured out better. was a little frustrating last year. and i think they have a better selection of trails as well. hopefully. hell i don't need an excuse to go to VT. bringing the bike along to do some nice runs down Killington. that and Long Trail Brewery is about 5 miles from the entrance to Bear Lodge. mmmmmm. |

I plan on going too. The first RFEst was O.K with some good trails. WCRC did have some problems last year, true, but let's give this one some support. There aren't enough events anyway! Thanks for the other recommmendations too. Will be going to MAR too. |

Kyle in spandex? Thanks for that mental image, Garrett..... The problems with the trail rides at Roverfest are for a couple of reasons, the main one being lack of volunteers. The more trail rides you run, the more volunteers are needed to organize them. Then there is the facility itself. The trail rides last year was all held on Killington property, and have to comply with restrictions set by Killington and the state. That is why there were no driving allowed anywhere above 2,500 feet, and the rides were limited to only a few of the ski slopes. Trail rides outside of the Killington property is another can of worms. Getting permission to run on private or state land is difficult at best, and there have been run ins with the Police because of unauthorized trail riding in the past. The VT Expedition society is basically a group of WCRC people who started a club on their own for whatever reason. I would not expect this years Killington event to be much different from the last two. Biggest problem this year is probably going to be lack of volunteers, since WCRC is no longer involved. I wish them luck, though. |
