Lately, I have been looking at a large number of available under carriage protection. Items from differntial guards, to gas tank skid plates, to catalytic converter guards ,to drive shaft guards, to overall frame guards. Which ones are needed and what ones are superflous?

Gas tank and differential protection are very wise.

Yes, diff. guards and gas tank skid, and sliders. I have a steering guard that I've never hit, but my diff. guards have been impacted and my gas tank has been deformed - not yet protected - and I unfortunately messed up a rear door prior to sliders being installed.

Diff guards first.

Sliders are good, too (but, it's an ongoing arguement as to which are best).

Gas-tank plate: there are benefits, but, you could hang up on it too whereas you wouldn't have caught otherwise.

Front skid-plate: sexy, but probably overkill. A sleeve over the steering rod would probably protect as much, and not create a hang-up potential.

My suggestion, get the diff-guards and sliders. Then go and hit the trails, and see if you think that you might need anything else.....

Diff gaurds, sliders, frame sliders, gas tank gaurd, cat gaurds. That is the order I am going to take. Currently I have diff gaurds and sliders. But of course it is never ending process.

Alyssa has more crap than anyone else.

Two diff guards
Cat guards
Sliders
Front skid plate
RTE drag link
SG Rock Gard
RW rear pinion guard
RTE HD trailing arms
RW fuel tank skid plate
Damper relocation kit

For the price of them all it would have been easier to buy a second disco :-) however, each one of them has been used so I guess they are worth it :-)

ive got:
SG front skid plate/Bumper
diff guards
pinion guards
HD drag link
HD tie rod
RTE sliders
RW Cat guard
custom gas tank skid plate
RTE HD trailing arms
relocated damper

I have used/hit every single one of these..and dont regret purchasing any of them.
I also plan on buying some RW frame sliders in the near future(my frame has taken a few nice hits)

Moral of the story...There is no such thing as too much protection :-)

For myself, I think I have guarded everything except the cats and steering links. Also at present, I have one manifold stud trashed from bashing a cat and bending the pipe, and a bent tie rod. If its under your truck, you'll hit it.

I forgot about some of the other stuff I have replaced. I don't even have a steering dampner anymore, I have replaced rear trailing arms with RW, my frame is nicely dented and so is the gas tank (bennifit to dented gas tank: less expencive at the pump). I carry spare track rod and draglinks and other stuff that will bend. True...you cannot have too much underbelly protection.
