I was wondering if anyone has installed aftermarket seats in their RRC? I am considering installing Corbeau TRS seats and would like some help finding or making seat brackets to mount the seats. Thanks |

I've seen couple of Corbeau GTSII in Discos but not in RRCs. I've always wanted to do this too but I need an armrest. The cubby lid is too low for my taste. ali '91RR |

Ali, Thanks for the input. I can appreciate your need for an armrest. I need a more supportive seat for off-road trips. I have written Corbeau asking for information about their seat brackets and rails. Maybe they will respond in the next day or so. Thanks, WRD |

Well I am about to do this very thing. There really are no seats with the LR width. We are around 17" wide if I remember correctly. Most seats are around 14" wide. I plan on getting Mastercraft seats and using Mustang 5.0 Seat brackets. They are 14" wide and sit very low. I will have to fab up some mounting plates, but that shouldn't be too hard. The biggest problem is the seat belts. The factory ones mount to the seat itself. So... I will either have to fab a mount for them, use lap belts only, or get the 4 or 5 point harness for the Mastercrafts and put tabs on the roll cage I will soon be building. Larry

After every x-country trip, I swear I'm going to get an aftermarket seat. My seat sucks for long term back and thigh support. Larry, do you have any links for your seats? How difficult do you think it is to incorporate the electric adjustment feature to a new seat? I think all electric motors are part of the LR seat right? |

I don't have any links. I am going with Mastercraft Sportsman seats with Mustang 5.0 Seat brackets and will use 1/4" X 4" X 17" strap to mount to factory holes, if I use the factory holes. The problem I found with the factory electrics is that the seat mount and seat are so integrated it makes it very difficult to seperate the two. I really want to get away from all the electrics I can anyway so the manuals suit me better. I am still ironing out the details for this but hopefully will have everything complete within the next few weeks. Larry |

I took a seat with me to the shop that sells Corbeau seats and compared dimensions and attachment points. The outcome of the comparison was that the seats will fit in the truck, I will use their universal slide rails and I will fabricate a flat frame that will attach the seat and rails to the existing seat support bracket. The frame is not much more than four pieces of flat iron welded together to form a rectangle that will be drilled to match the seat rails and the seat support bracket. The only issue I see at this point is fabricating an attachment point for the factory seat belt. I think this can be accomplished by welding a piece of angled iron to the fabricated frame, drilling an appropriately sized bolt hole and welding an appropriately sized nut. I'll shoot photos and let you know my progress as the project develops. WRD

Larry look around for someone with a set of seats from a Hunter 1991 RRC, these are Manual, I got a set in Scotland and with shipping and all it was $350 complete, then I pulled the leather off mine and swaped it with those, straight forward job, Easy, and I got lighter seats with no chances of having any problems, removed all the electronics and cables, wires, etc.. now there are less things to worry about. But one MAIN thing to consider when removing electric seats from 93LWB and above models, If you have a Seat memory feature, you'll need to rewire the mirror system, cause without that little seat switch, you'll have no control to the mirrors, and there is no direct power to the switch in the dash if you have seats with memory in them, I had to get a switch from a discovery and wire it all up with the help of a master tech at LR North Dade and the schematics in the manual, what a crazy wiring jon that was, but hey it all works now. When I switched out the seats and then relocated the Under passenger seat ECU to under the pass side dash, I ended up with a huge storage space under the pass seat since there is NOTHING under it anymore, I sealed all the holes with welding plates and solder and now I have basically a cubby box. WRD, You have the right idea. I was thinking I would fabricate the same sort of "adapter" for the seat brackets. Haven't really thought through the seat belts yet. I will probably remove the factory seat belts and just use the lap portion of the 5-point seat harness for now. Of course then I have to find attachment points for them, which of course leads me to possibly installing a rollcage. It never ends. Ozzie, I had already thought of that. However I am trying to gain 1-2" of headroom in the process. The manual seats offer no real improvements for this unfortunately. Larry |

Larry, I picked up the seats and rails yesterday. I will measure the dimensions for the adapter bracket sometime this weekend and hopefully be able to fabricate them soon. As you pointed out, the seat belt anchor will need to be fabricated. I saw a Corbeau seat adapter bracket for a Porsche that incorporated the seat belt anchor. Corbeau welded a piece of angled flat iron to the bracket. Basically, it was bent so that it would clear the seat moving fore and aft on its slide and used the appropriately sized nut welded to the angled iron as the attachment point for the seat belt receptacle. I am going to try to reproduce this arrangement for my truck given I want to retain the factory seat belts. I think using the factory belts rather than a 3 point or 4 point harness will make the ingress and egress easier and simplify the installation process. WRD
