I have on '03 Disco II. It does not have a center diff lock (USA spec). I have seen the manual, external CDL additions and the electronic CDL additions. Has anyone tried changing the CD linkage to an European or Australian linkage (which, i was told, has the CDL). Then I would be able to use the stock Hi-range/Low-range transfer case lever and push it to the left to engage the CDL (right?). Is this possible? Worth while?

With an 03 NAS spec Disco I would look to see if you can even lock the transfer case first before looking at what type of CDL linkage you want. It's my understanding that the ones sent over here now are not lockable which would make a linkage purchase a waste of money. Some of the earlier D2s had the correct lockable transfer cases but, I believe that LRNA has since changed that.

I thought I read somewhere on this board that even though LR removed the external stud, the internal mechanism still existed within the Transfer case itself.

To the Dweb Search Machine you must go.

YOU NEED TO SWAP AT LEAST THE FRONT OUTPUT HOUSING TO LOCK THE CDL ON AN 03 DISCO.

You will also need to mill the case for the input shaft. Not worth it. Cheaper to buy a used 230 with the mechanism installed.

"You will also need to mill the case for the input shaft."

What input shaft? The input is from the trans and is the same on both cases.

The front output housing is one piece, off with the old (err rather new) and on with the old. You should not even have to drop the t-case.

the shaft chris is referring to (i believe) is the one that the actuating linkage attatches to, not power from the engine...pre mid 2001, nas disco II's had no linkage to actuate the cdl, but still had the shaft the linkage connected to exposed. post mid 2001, the cases were changed to eliminate the exposed shaft and rendered simply buying linkage and installing it no longer an option. i too have heard that the mechinism is still ~inside~, but there is no way in a post mid 2001 to get to the stuff without opening a hole inside the case...

I think what Ron is saying is that the front transfer case housing has the shaft in it. Therefore, all you need is the front housing cover from an earlier t-case and install that on your new vehicle. Then you can mount the linkage of your choice.

Does anyone know of a good source for the transfer case linkage from a DI? I have a '99 DII and every place I call (i.e. wrecking yards) will not sell the linkage, only the whole unit.
