Shock and Springs

Next to go is the springs, they are squeking and gives me a rough horrible ride. I checked rovertym, NWP, and some other places for springs and saw the "2 inch springs are the same as the regular springs. My question is : Would it hurt my shocks or anything on my car to put the "2 inch springs on, or should i just replace the existing springs with the exact same size? Going up an incline with a large dip, the front left shock came apart and hung itself on top of the bottom boot and was stuck there. It looked pretty cool from one angle like i had a few inches of lift, but green shit started oozing out of the sides on the way back to the house to fix it, the shock had been on there for less than a month. I had Gabriel shocks in my recently purchased 97 Disco and they were the problem of the rough ride not the springs.I fitted Rancho shocks and 2" lift springs (Kiwi made naturally) and the result was a totally different ride now I can relax and enjoy my truck!!
