Hey guys I pulled out my IAS and cleaned it w/ some electrical cleaner & now my idle is way, way up. I drove around for about 15 minutes & it seemed that the computer was trying to "re-learn" the idle b/c it dropped when I stopped. Now it seems that the IAS isn't working at all. When it was idling & I turned on the air, the idle just dropped a few hundred RPM's & didn't go back up. Does it take a while for the ECM to learn the idle again?? Thanks for any help Joe B |

Joe, I had this same problem on a 96 with 90K after cleaning the stepper and intake. Did you by chance unplug the MAF? I replaced the TPS and the stepper (at about $250) to no avail. Finally after about two months of this I was able to get the truck hooked up to an AutoLogic, the tech reset the ECU back to default and the problem went away. Something had gotten out of whack and the ECU was unable to reset itself. Jeff |

just disconnect the neg battery terminal for about an hour or so and all will be well again this will reset the ECU to default settings again |

I'm going to go out and right now & disc the neg battery terminal to see what happends. BTW now I have a dying problem...basically when I start the truck when cold it dies unless I give it some gas. When it warms up a bit it idles just fine. I'm really confused at this problem it seems like it is an endless loop. I read a posting today that spoke of an "amplifier module." You know when I first started having this problem last summer I didn't think that it was the idle stepper...it seemed more electrical. Any thoughts. Thanks for your help. Joe B |

Joe, again mine did the same thing. One day the stepper would move and it would not idle when cold, once it warmed up the idle was fine but then the next day the idle would jump back up to around 1800. I tried the disconnect battery thing and it did not work for me. Take it to someone with an AutoLogic and spend the $50-75 to have it reset. I bet your problem goes away.... Jeff |

Jeff, I'm pulling my hair out. Disc the battery last night right after work for about 2 hours. Went out and reconnected the battery & it started right up. Took it for a spin to the store & it ran great (although I did notice that the idle was a little more "thump, thump" through the exhaust indicating to me that the mixture is still not right). Well, went out this morning & tried to start it up...and guess what the GD thing wouldn't start without giving it gas. I'm going to try this Autologic thing, definitely. Now is this something that the dealer will have to get involved in...or basically an import auto shop?? I have to stop by a Pep Boys/repair tomorrow to get some oil for my other rig...is this something that they can do?? See I talked w/ the dealer about the problem and their solution is to just start replacing stuff. No way. Any help here would be greatly appreciated you have no idea!! Joe B |

Remember, that it takes several start cycles and a couple hundred miles for some of the functions to relearn themselves. Of course the Autologic is always a good idea too> -Reed |

Joe, the dealer can do but they are going to charge you 1 hr labor (at about $85/hr) or you can find an independent that works on LRs that has access to the AutoLogic. Where do you live? Someone on this board should be able to point you in the right direction. IMO you are not going to correct the problem without hooking the ECU up to a machine that can clear it out. I ran mine for several months and tried the disconnect battery thing a few times but it was so far out of sinc that it could not correct itself. 5 mins on the AutoLogic corrected the problem and 3000 miles later I still have no faults and running fine.
