This time tomorrow, I'll be on my way to a new job. Leaving Kansas, headed for Glacier National Park, Montana. I'll be starting a new position as Landscape Architect at Glacier on Monday. Will be living at the park temporarily until I can find my own place in or near Kalispell. I'm very excited with the potential for advancing my career. Been stuck in the "same-ol, same-ol" routine too long at KDOT. Unfortunatly, my wife and son will be staying in Kansas for awhile. They have things going on here that prevent them from moving with me. I'll be on my own for a year or so. Anyone out there in Kalispell or Glacier area? If so, post a message on this board. I'll be checking in when I arrive there.

too say the least, I'm very envious. I worked in Yellowstone during my college years while my friend worked in Glacier. both beautiful Parks, yet, Glacier is the nicer of the two.

currently a member of the "Going-to-the-Sun" road advisory group so still keep involved with the Park.

have fun and enjoy the area. we're going for a visit in '04.

Have fun!

I spent a summer in Kalispell and did some Fly in/ Horse back fishing trips in GNP, it was an amazing place to say the least.

sooooooo.... Why does the park need a landscape architect? Last time I was there the landscape already looked pretty damn good :-)

Just messing with you, I'm assuming you will be designing more civilized areas the park needs like camping areas with facilities and what not. Enjoy the job I'm envious

First day on the job. What a shock! I'm not in Kansas anymore, Toto.

Scenery is beautiful. (What did you expect?) People are great to work with. Had a bit of trouble driving up here. On Friday evening, outside of Bozeman, the fuel pump went out on my Discovery. Of course, no one in Montana has parts for Land Rovers. Had to order one from RoversNorth. Will be delivered tomorrow, the shop in Bozeman will install it for me this week. In the meantime, I rented a car to complete my drive. Very expensive. Will drive back to Bozeman this Saturday to get my Discovery.

Anyone know of any Land Rover mechanics in Montana? Especially around Glacier NP or Kalispell?

from Bushducks site: http://www.bushducks.com/landrover/landrover.htm#MT

Mountain Rovers, Inc.
550 1st Avenue North
Billings
MT 59101
Tel: 406.254.8400
Fax: 406.254.8400
rovers@mountainrovers.com

also suggest get the official workshop manual and find a good mechanic. with the manual and parts from various suppliers, you can at least get a fair amount of the work performed.

Sorry about the repeat post. New computer system is different from what I'm used to.

John and Jamie, thanks for the information. I'll check out these sources. I have a workshop manual and a Haynes manual, but I don't have a garage or proper workspace of my own up here. Will have to see what I can do about renting a space.

bill i didn't know you were an LA? maybe i did and forgot. that's very cool. i graduated in LA in '94 at PSU. i think you went to K state (very good program btw) or something. that sounds like an amazing position you snagged up there. VERY beautiful area as i have had many friends live in Whitefish. spent a day or so in GNP at the Isaak Walton Inn (Great Northern Railway) in Essex, MT.
sounds like an LA's dream job to me. what kind of work will you do?
if you have time to kill hit The Great Northern Bar in downtown Whitefish. fun place.
good luck with the Rover. :-)
and bill we won't get on carter's case for not knowing what LA's actually do.
i.e. master plans for towns, resorts, cities, universities. environment plans for cities and governments. etc. us LA's are use to having to explain ourselves time and time again. :-)

Garrett,

Yeah, I'm an LA, too. Went to K-State. My boss here, Fred Babb, is a Penn State grad, somewhere around early 60's.

This is beautiful country. Still trying to get oriented. Lots of work to do here. I'll be in contract management for several projects, including Many Glacier Lodge and Lake McDonald boat dock. Also will work on major renovation of Going-to-the-Sun Road. This will be interesting and I am very excited.

Mr. Leek,
Wanted to give you a heads up about a guy that operates in the area your in. He sometimes goes by the name of "Creed" and has a list of AKA's. He deals mostly in used "parts"....Buyer beware

www.mountainrovers.com . They're in Billings, and I have No Idea if that's anywhere near where you are. They're mostly Series people IIRC although they had some RRCs there too I think.

I found them by accident/providence as I was driving through Billings a few months ago. It really made my day to see a long line of about 20 really cool Land Rovers there. They were closed at the time but I sent them an email later and they seemed really nice.

Thanks for all the responses. I did check with Mountain Rovers. Billings is about 500 miles from Glacier/Kalispell area. They did not have any fuel pumps for a Discovery. They had one wrecked Discovery in their yard, but the fuel pump had already been removed. That should tell us something about them. No new parts, used only and only when they have access to a wrecked or traded-in vehicle.

If any of you think of any other possibilities, please let me know.

Thanks again.
