I have just bought a 96 disco. You really have to tinker all the time. I love it. Where are the least exspensive Land Rover parts. I wouldn't mind paying a little more to deal with someone who can give good advice on how to install the parts.

1. Buy a shop manual. Preferably a Bentley manual, though Haynes makes one, too.

2. This is the internet. You found this website. Hidden on this website is a cache of links to LR vendors...hidden on Yahoo and Google is likely a larger list of discount vendors...seek and you shall find.

3. I have had excellent service from Marty at British Pacific, though our conversations typically entail determining if a newer part can retro-fit my grey-market RR. Do yourself a favor and read step one again. Educate yourself as much as possible before you waste the vendor's time. The last thing they need is to assume liability for directions you didn't understand or employ correctly. There is also a decent tech section on this website with many mechanical endeavors documented.

a) I'll second Jason's suggestion to get a shop manual; I would suggest a genuine one, available from many vendors.

b) For parts to keep a Disco running, I'd suggest http://www.discountrovers.com/ , Nathan's a good fella.

c) Wear out the search feature on this BBS, especially in the archives. Don't hesitate to ask something, but I'd suggest tolook in the archives first, to save yourself some flak....

d) Have fun! :-)

It's on the first or second page where the publisher and ISBN numbers are located (or something like that).

This is funny....

I looked at my manual last night, and there is NO mention of Bentley anywhere. Everything mentioned is in reference to Land Rover Publications, except for one small like that refers to Brooklands Publishing.

Suppose that Land Rover had both Bentley and Brooklands to do contract printing of their manuals?

I dunno Leslie...the manual I bought from Atl. Brit. was a Bentley manual

http://www.atlanticbritish.com/ProductList.asp?Category=MANUALS%2FDIAGNOSTICS&Ve hicle=D1&PerPage=1&ListType=DETAIL&PartNumber=9291D

...I suppose anything is possible (I wonder if the content is different).

I called Hayes about a 03 Disco manual & they said they had no plans to publish until there was a greater demand. Also called Bentley & the operator said to check the Brooklands website, which also did not show a 03 manual. Guess I'm SOL til a CD or paper one gets published.

Leslie, you are probably right. I went and checked again...Brookland is the publisher...my confusion was the Bentley Publishing sticker with bar-code and LR part number on the back of my manual :-)

Rupert, your best bet is to take it to the dealership as anything you may have to do to your vehicle that would require a manual should be covered by LR under warranty.

Jason: :-)

Bill, that's a good price that Snowman found... that's what I paid when I found min on one of BP's "deal-of-the-day" specials....

Rupert, I think that they'll have one by early/mid-'04 for the post-'02s; I wouldn't bother with a Haynes for a Disco, I think the genuine manual for an '02 would be far better, FWIW...

Jason,Leslie,
As a dummy in mechanical affairs, I want (need) to be educated (somewhat) if I have to take the vehicle in & the mechanic sez "u need to replace xyz part". I want know that xyz is connected to abc & def is whatever.
Thanks,
(newbie dummy Rupert)

this is the internet. The world is your oyster.. Prices vary a lot. Shop around. I probably can't do this, but some of places I use are:
northeastbritishparts.com
xks.com
britishpacific.com
Performancemotorcars.com
motorcarsltd.com
roverparts.com
DAP-Inc.com

Depending on what your buying cost vary a lot between each place. some even offer free shipping.

Rupert,

Hang out here, and read posts while you drink your coffee at work. Read more when you're home surfin' the web. Just skip over the places where mud starts getting slung over the keyboards at each other, and you'll pick out the important stuff.

Your '03, while a little different, is close enough to an '02 that the manual will give you the basics very close to what you will encounter... the big differences would be that you'd have a 4.6 instead of the 4.0 (so internal engine spec sheets would be a bit different, but won't affect the outside of the engine), you'd have a bit of differences in your wiring (headlights and taillights being changed), but the lion's share of the manual would be applicable.

Good luck!

FWIW, I think the Haynes is a great manual for a beginning wrench (a helluva lot better than a Chiltons...). The torque spec's are easy to find and it's organized fairly well. I have both the Haynes and the LR manual and have used them both. For the price, it's handy to have around.
