I can not get the rear plate off my disco. The aluminum pieces in the door spin as I spin the screws. I can not believe this could be this hard. Please help. I work on my disco at our rescue squad building.I have access to a set of jaws and I'm ready to use them to just cut the door off. I have been at this for 3 hours no better than when I started. |

I had the same problem. I think the replacement rivnuts where 8mm off the top of my head, I could be wrong though. You may want to use a small grinder or disk cutter to cut them off from the inside. JK |

I had the same problem with my Disco. Took it to a body shop who cut off the nutserts from inside as described by Roald. The shop then used a rubber fitting with a brass insert and stainless bolts to reattach the plate. Apparently these are the fittings used by GM to attach the outside mirrors on some pickups. The beauty of these is that there is no corrosion around the hole in the door, between the fitting and the stainless bolt, plus there is enough of a rubber shoulder on the fitting to keep the plate away from the door itself. |
