You might want to check with some of the manufacturers to see who they use. Or a freight or cargo company. Emery is who my company uses.

Unless you have an "in" at FedEx, you are going to get raped on using them even the frieght division. If I recall, they quoted me somewhere around $400 to ship a rack from east coast to Denver.

One of the fellows I sold a rack to last year arranged frieght through a Frieght broker. I think I can find the info if noone else remembers and he only paid around $100 and it turned out that Watkins was the company that took it out to him.

Monte.. I've always use YELLOW Freight. They are very good and very customer friendly. I've shipped an large outboard motor, transmissions, engines and a bunch of other large items across the GREAT United States and they were always very helpful and one time, even assisted in putting it on a pallet and strapping it down.

Good luck

www.ship-inc.com

shipped an adventure rack through them last year from virginia to missouri for less than a hundred. i had to put cardboard on the outside, so it wouldn't damage anybody else's stuff but it was the best price i found and i looked under every rock to find the cheapest place.

http://www.cf.com/ Bankrupt.

"VANCOUVER, Wash., October 10, 2002 - Consolidated Freightways Corporation (OTC PINK SHEETS: CFWEQ) said today that the company has completed delivery of freight remaining in its system and has shut down its U.S. trucking operations"

The CF terminal here in town is closed down and for sale.

I have no idea who was in your building, but it's not CF.....

I just shipped one from savannah to chicago for $156...but that was at a 40% discount rate.

I have also recently looked into shipping them out from the chicago area nation wide and very few frieght companies want the business unless they are in rigid cardboard crates.

When I took possession of my D2 Adventure Rack the box had FedEx shipping stickers on it. It was shipped direct from LRNA in Lanham, MD via FedEx. So, evidently, FedEx will ship the thing.

Speaking of an "in" at FedEx, if you don't know anyone that works for FedEx, do you know anyone that works for United Airlines? A pilot friend of mine for United was telling me they get significant discounts with FedEx.

I also second TBow's Yellow Freight recommendation. I'm pretty new to the freight shipping scene and Yellow has been very accomodating and quite helpful.

You might try www.odfl.com, too. One of my clients ships flooring using ODFL & ABF. He used to use CF too before they went bankrupt. I don't know how well any of these companies play with individuals, though.
