I am curious what type of gas mileage other RRC owners are getting. I am running a 92' RRC 3.9l, automatic and I am getting 200 miles out of a tank running 92 or 93 octane. Is this good or bad? I do about a 50/50 split town/highway driving.

I get about the same out of my '89 RRC with stock tires and over 100,000 miles on the clock. The truck also could use a cap and rotor. On the highway I drive at least 70 MPH.

'93 LWB, ARB with winch, full Brownchurch rack, 3" lift, 235/85-16 TrXus MTs, 4.6 RPI, Tornado chip, free flow muffler, K&N filter, new LR plugs, new Magnacor wires, Mallory dist and coil -

10mpg - loaded, unloaded, on highway, around town, up hills, down hills, 55mph, 75mph - it doesn't matter - 10mpg.

only time it did better is when we coasted down Engineers Pass with a dead motor. it was Econ-Rover then.

Rover 1 (110k), Magnacor wires, 34" swampers, 4" lift, I get about 215 miles on a tank. Second range rover (152k) is bone stock with stock tires, and gets about 290 miles to the tank. I wish I was kidding, but I've been driving it this week since the other one is down with a bad transmisison.

am i mistaken or did the volume of the gas tank increase in like 90-91?

seems like i get damn near 300/ 17 gallon tank, but that seems too high, i'll have to test it again this week.

95 RRC, 55K miles, 4.2L LWB, bone stock
13-14 around towm, 15.5-16.5 highway, 300+ per tank

My 98 Disco, 75K miles, 4.0L, roof rack doesn't do as well. Only 14-15 on highway. Probably the higher profile but I also believe the larger engine of the RRC doesn't have to work as hard.

Generally get around 14mpg with "local" driving which is a mix of sitting in traffic on back roads(we're overdeveloped here in SE PA) and moving along at a regular pace. Not much highway driving.

This is a '95 LWB with 115k miles. Stock and original setup, but Borla exhaust.

1 more addition:

1994/95 RRs had the fuel tank increased to 23.4 gallons.

20 gal tank up to late 1990
21.6 gal tank 1991 to 1993
23.4 gal tank 1994 - 1995

I usually get about 150 miles to 15 gallons of gas. No fuel guage, so I have rarely pushed it towards the full 20+ gallons...

...my odometer is also off by at least 20%, so I figure it's doin' good for a tired 3.5

Jamie, if your correct then my 92 RRC is getting some pretty poor mileage. Correct me if I am wrong. 200 miles per tank est. divided by 21.6 gallon tank equals 9.25 mpg... Am I doing this wrong or is it that really that bad? I have never pushed it, I guess I should fill up a jerry can and drive around town until the thing dies. Then I will have an acurate #...

all I can say Jason is those are the tank numbers that I can reference.

holds true for my '93 as I've pumped 21 plus a little into it after coasting into the gas station the one time.

as mentioned - I'm at the rarified 10mpg. level myself.

Jason,

Gas up your tank till full, write down mileage from odomeer, drive till your guage is low, fill back up and note how much gas it took, take odometer reading again, minus odo reading from previous, and divide mileage by gallons of gas, and you got an average mpg.

Don't worry about it, gas mileage in Rovers sucks anyway you look at it, just drive and be happy. I have no idea what mine is, but it probably sucks.

My '83 steel tank hold about 20 gallons...I actually put 20.5 or something odd gallons in it. About near ran it dry (understatement...) and certainly filled up the filler neck while I was at it.

'74/4-spd LT-95/3.5w/dual carbs and bad compression/dual side tanks (5.5 gal ea) plus original tank - 8 mpg and believe me all three tanks were needed -when it ran. Gathering parts for 5.0 now.

'87RRC 3.5l with 31x10.5 AT's and AMSOIL throughout

I get 15-17MPG in mixed driving, and I can get ~20MPG on the highway if relatively flat @ about 70mph.

I fill up at 200miles due to a dead gas gauge.

89 with a 20 gal tank. I usually drive it till the light comes on and that is about 175-180 miles in town. On the highway I get 225-250 miles. I just got a new flame trap, my mechanic said that it was missing. Don't know if that will help or not.

I just filled up my tank yesterday on my 91RRC and it took 23.10 gallons!!!! I normally put in 22 - 22.5 gallons. I always run it down to the end because my daily drive never changes (a lot of hills and 70-75mph...3"RTE, 245/75's, ARB w/8k winch and roofrack). 245-255 miles 30% city/ 70% highway.

WOW, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. 93 LWB, 31.7" Tires, 2" Lift, Full Camel spec Safety Devices Interior Roll Cage, ARB, X9, Rovertym Sliders , Dual Batteries, Full Roofrack, 2 full jerry cans, Pelican 1650 case with approx. 65lbs of spares, Safety Devices Skid PLate Weight fully loaded 6600lbs as weighed on Jan5th in San Antonio, Tx, that's with 2 folks, dog, 1 months worth of clothes for 2 people, and cooler with food, and tools, 2 spares, etc.. 11.5 mpg around town 14.9 on the highway No AC on at the time, driving approximately 85mph most of the way. In town in Miami it's an average of 270 miles per 20 gallon fill up. My tank is a US 21.3 Gallon Tank. Now I've added a Rovertym Rear Bumper, Rovertym Front Radius arms, Wheel spacers and soon ( monday thru Wednesday next week rear Heim Jointed Links and a newer tougher set of springs maybe a body lift. SO overall a good Gas rating when compared to a stock Hummer, LOL

PS, anyone know if they make or who has 8.0 x 16 XZL Michelins? 7.50 is a bit small, But can't go as tall as a 9.0 don't have that much room under there.

Ozzie,

"7.50 is a bit small"

A bit small for what?

:-)

I guess it depends on what you plan on doing.

They do make an 8.25R16 XZL which is probably harder to get than the 7.50R16 XZL but about 2.28" bigger.

Phillip, I didn't know I would like them as much as I do, when I bought them. I knew they were a proven product with years of history in the British off-road rally circuit, British and US Military and let's not forget the good old Camel Trophy.

They are very tough tires. They have performed flawlessly for me in dirt, sand and rock. I don't do mud, but I hear they are excellent there also. They air down superbly. Michelin boasts that they will hold a bead down to 1 psi - no bead-locks required - I haven't tried that yet. Their tall and skinny aspect let's them easily stuff without rubbing - at least in the 7.50 size. They balance very easily. For me, they also preserve the look of a Land Rover, and I have to admit there is a tiny element of exclusivity about them - you don't see them all the time, well unless you're hanging with these guys:

http://www.expeditionexchange.com/michelin/brig_3cdo_hr.jpg

I'd be curious to see if they'd trade their XZLs for Intercos :-)
