Will a Discovery series II 4.0 block work in my series I disco 4.0. I found one cheap and have a cracked block, and I am wondering if it will bolt on to the rest of my engine. My 42k mile, well maintained 4.O has a cracked block and sticky valves caused by the GEMS system. |

BTW, how much are you paying for the used engine? I have seen brand new 4.0 short blocks for $1200. Or try to find a 4.6. |

It is from a 2000 series 2 with 10K miles. It is on ebay now with a $1400 buy it now. They look a little bit different, are you positive on this? Is there a site that could confirm this for me? Also, a new short block for $1200 is a great deal, is this from a specific business? Thanks |

Dave.. Just went through the exact same thing myself with my 96. I had a rod let go and destroyed the block. I got the short block from Ron Brown at Land Rover Mainline in PA. Look around this board, you'll find him. A 4.0 brand new short block for 1,200 bucks shipped to my door. The only thing you need to do is to replace the little disc in the bellhousing that the crankshaft sensor bolts on to. The new 4.0 will come with a disc on it and you need to grind it off and put the one off of your other engine on the new motor. If you don't have access to a welder, you can just epoxy it on. The total cost me with block, other engine parts and machine work it cost me about 2K. Email if you need more info.
