I am a former 900s owner and soon possibly a pre-owned 9-3 owner. Unlike many on this board I think they are great cars but yes expensive to fix. What's up?

I came across some odds and ends for the 96 900 turbo that I had a few years back and it had me thinking about my old car. I have to admit, I loved driving that thing, but it always knew when there was money in my pocket. I was just wondering if there were any similiar experiences out there.

My wife drives a 98 900s convertible. It is a great car during warm weather. No problems so far (knock on wood), but it has had a few vibes in the lower gears recently.;

funny C., we had a 96 900 turbo plus a 96 900 V6 at the same time. traded in the 96 turbo on a new '95 D90 SW. kept the V6 as it was the wife's Saab. yes, it was a cool car except it sucked in snow with the Michelin Pilot tires on it. we had it in DC during the '96 blizzard and couldn't get out for about a week!

I had my 900 for only one snow fall that year. I now remember calling LR Calgary to see what they had. I had pirelli's on it which were not so great on the ice and snow that day. But the great thing about Calgary is that it will be miserable one day and absolutely beautiful the next.

I just can't believe it soaked me for $4500 over 9 months after the warranty expired. I guess I did not do my homework on this car. I just assumed since it was a certified Saab lease back that it checked out all right.

Chris:

We've got a 2000 wagon, and it's really fun to drive. If it weren't under warranty, it would be gone, as the turbo has been replaced 2x, a mis-ground oil pan leaked from the factory, the power steering pump blew, and all this before 18000 miles. The turbo alone would have been $2000.

I found Cooper Weathermaster tires where great in the snow on the 900s. If it was not for the rust issues I would have kept it. It was a solidly built and fun car to drive. Oddly I never found any good internet/BBS resources for the Saab, anyone else have any luck with this?

Back before Xmas, I traded my '96 9000 for my current '93 RRC. SAABs are a bad idea for Northern Ontario (no dealers, PITA to get bits) versus Rovers (no dealers, PITA to get bits, but you can keep them going with a bit of thought and ingenuity).

I have a 2001 9-5 Aero Wagon with 20K miles, no significant problems. I love the car, but IMHO it is a little too powerful for FWD. Saab really needs to get AWD in their cars. I would kill for a 350 bhp V6 biturbo Aero with AWD.

I don't think you can find a better long distance travelling car than a 9-5 Wagon, especially at high altitudes like the Colorado Plateau. This car devours the miles in total quiet comfort and gets 28-30 mpg.

I have a 1988 9000 Turbo 5 spd with 335,000 miles on the original engine! great car, still reliable and runs fast. Parts are easier to get cheap now since the internet and yes, there is a GREAT website for SAAB owners at saabnet.com. It is very helpful and has a dedicated following almost as fanatical the D'Webbers. This is my third SAAB, had a model 99 in college, then a 84 900 Turbo. I want a nice 96 with the two stroke triple for a little fun car..........

I bought a 2000 9-3 5speed a about a month ago. Love the car. Fun to drive, good gas mileage, and has a pretty good size fuel tank. Plus we got an incredible deal on it.

Snow, getting a saab huh? Let me know if you want me to look at any down here for you.

I've been surfing saabnet for a few months now. Pretty good site. Can't stand the forum layout though. And the online parts stores have pretty bad sites. BUt oh well. Guess I'm just spoiled with discoweb, and miata.net

Hi Zak-
My wife really wants a 5-speed Saab again, so they are in the running for sure. I came real close to buying an 850 Volvo today but backed out of it. I own two older Volvo's presently and I am partial to them. However the late 90's Volvo maintenance costs seem awful high. My friend has an 850 GLT and it's been an absolute nightmare. I totally agree with your comments on the Saabnet forum, great site but the layout is lame. I might take you up on the offer to "preview" someday, thanks again.
