I did a search in the archives and didn't really come up with anything. I've heard of people hollowing them out, etc., but since they are after the O2 sensors, couldn't I just cut them off and go with a straight pipe? I know I can't "legally" but we don't have emissions testing or anything here in TN.

I hollowed mine out on my 88RRC. In upstate NY, we don't have emmissions testing, but as part of the inspection, they look to see if the proper bits and peices are there. If they are removed you could fail. Maybe TN is different. If you feel yours are clogged, just hollow them out. The inside is a ceramic "honey comb". I did it with the stock steel jack bar. Took me an hour or so. With no back pressure, my rig felt pretty zippy.

When I bought my 89 RRC a few years ago, the catalytic convertors were already gone and pipes welded in. It ran great but the exhaust is pretty strong. That un-catalyzed exhaust is potent and sticks to your clothes.

Smell shouldn't be that much of an issue, it already smells like rotten eggs half the time due to the bad cat. I came really close to just having the guy cut them off yesterday, but didn't. Put a Flowmaster on by the way. RS

Why?

A good replacement high flow cat can be had for $100...I know one person won't make a huge difference, but what if one plus one plus one guts their cat or removes it?

Why buy a Rover and cheap-out? and at what gain? Nothing really. A good cat flows almost as well as a straight pipe....this is not 1977.

Oh! By the way! I beleive It's a federal offense.

Thanks alot RJ, I really was thinking this was 1977. I was simply asking a question and trying to get some opinions, not trying to "cheap-out". If I honestly worried about every $100 I had to spend on the my Disco, I wouldn't have purchased another one to compliment it, I would have just gotten a Jeep Cherokee. I hope you don't take this in offence, take it light-heartedly, the way I typed it out here. I think I'll cut them off tonight and drive through your neighborhood killing the trees!! Just kidding.. Don't know about you guys, but in Oz any Disco from years 98 - 91 don't have "cats".

If you remove the O2 sensors you will have exhaust leaks. Your rig will sound like a tractor unless you plug the holes.

No Cat or a hollowed cat is a federal offence.

Tee hee means I'm fawkin with ya ;)

Seriously though, why? What benefit are you hoping to achieve? Power? Simplification (as in one less thing to deal with?)

I guess I understand what you want to do Paul, and if that's your thing, then go for it. But why?

I want an answer now young man gawwwwdaaaaammmow!

LOL!

ps I do take it all light heartedly...just like when ONE other Guy from Dweb shows up for a big Maine Rover event LOL! Now THAT was funny...seems there was muchos laundry that needed doing, or were the guys fixing leaks?....<evil Grin>

on my '67 109, there are no cats with the V8 and none necessary due to the year. just straight pipe to the muffler. 2 O2 sensors. it is definately quicker than my D90 was with the similiar engine. plus revs quicker.
