99 d1, 65K, had to replace head gasket and valves. Any suggestions to keep valves from sticking again? Always used 93 octane. |

Have you had your ECU re-programmed? There is a chip that can be soldered in. I am not sure if it is aftermarket or warranted by land rover. I am having Robison Service do my valves and this chip at the same time. The GEMS system is not programmmed for optimal combustion (I think) and the carbon build up is the result, even in well maintained engines. I am not sure if this was fixed for 99'. Robison Service is very knowledgeable, www.robisonservice.com |

Synthetic oil is less suceptible to clogging up and therefore sticking. It also doesn't have the impurities of natural oil. It's more expensive but worth it if it will keep you from worrying. |

You could just get a horse and have him pull the truck around. If you never start the engine then you are less likely to have carbon build up on the new valve surfaces. |
