www.greatbasinrovers.com

The axles he sells are actually made by Maxi Drive...I have these axles and have had no problems yet. I am running them with a detroit locker, and have not found any signs that they have twisted at all (i pulled them and checked them)

Ashcroft also makes HD axle shafts, but I have heard that they are not as strong.

So does McNamara, but I'm not sure if he's represented in the USA.

How is Moser better? We've tried Moser shafts on the rear of a Jeep TJ and they were softer than 4340 Chrome Moly alloy that Warn sells. We saw very minor twist at the splines from the use of a Lockright. We also heard the same from other Jeep, Chevy and Dodge owners, thus believing that Moser, while making good upgraded shafts, is not as good as Warn or in Land Rover's case Maxidrive.

Moser shafts are an improvement over stock, but the Warns seem to be much better than Mosers....
Im happy with my MaxiDrives :-)

I dunno ... I would guess that the 31 spline FF axles in my CJ are an anomoly... 7 years of trying to break them so i can put 35 spines in the 60 and and loose the detroit for a spool, i just can't do it!!!!
Sometimes hard isn't what you want... A waisted shaft is that way because it needs to twist a bit to absorb the shock...like a softer material.
The Drag race guys around here swear buy them and having a 10 year warranty helps too... Of course that would be for 33 spline or bigger..
Just my $.02 fwiw..

I have a friend thats runny Mosers in a CJ with a detroit or lockright?? its got a built 360 and low gears. he gives it hell and hasnt broke yet. I know the CJ aint as heavy as the Disco but his has a hell of alot more power than any disco. I have seen some video of him at Tellico I would say they are pretty damn tough.

Neither of your CJ is running small diameter shafts. The 24 spline Rover shafts and the 27 spline D35 shafts are smaller in diameter to begin with. I believe the material used by Moser in combination with smaller diameter makes the shafts "too soft". I know they need to twist but too soft is just as bad as too hard. Like I mentioned before, I think they're way better than stock but perhaps Warn or MaxDrive are even better. That's all. I never dispute actual success/failure stories. If it works it works. For us it sure did not.

In reality the Dana 60 shafts are only .125" bigger on the OD that's not much... In fact i don't think that that's enough to warrant going with a $g type 30 spline setup at the same diameter... We'll find out i have them ready to go in my truck right now and plan to abuse them this summer a lot... I'm confident plus there's that warranty thing...

Brian,

Keith is working on a pair of fronts for his disco, and if they turn out anything like the rears they may even stand up to your use :-)

Seriously though I have seen the rears and they are stout, I wish I had taken a pic of them last time I was out at his shop.

The Front's are early 110 CV's that use the 23 spline axles, nothing new and profound...The trick will be to get them to fit behind an alloy wheel... I'll have Moser cut some axles for hose as well... This set up should(?!)hold up to 37's in most situations... Why aren't you two working on that Red Truck???? I finished up another set of my trailing arms yesterday... I'm ready for the red beast!!!! Brian do you want to mess around with those tires i have sittin out back of the garage?

This is EXACTLY what Moser is making for me!
Front and rear..... Very cool!!! These Moser axles run a constant 1.25"... I can put these on any LR with steel wheels but to run with alloy wheels it looks like a 1" wheel spacer would be required... as you can see in Bills pics there are some special spacers required which I make for the application... It's simple all you need is a lathe a mill and some #'s.... I don't think that a 4.0, or even a 5.0 with even 4.7 gears and 37's could break this set up in even an extreme situation...
