ABS light came on on my '97 disco I, at first it would come on and go off intermitently, now it stays on. Weird thing is, my ABS seems to work, but my cruise control does not. Any ideas? Is there a way to extract a code from the ABS?
thanks!

Daniel:
Only on 95 and earlier can the code be read with the blink code procedure. Later vehicles need the dealer with Testbook, or an independent with Rovercom, Autologic, etc. Not sure if generic OBDII readers can access abs.

Use the search function above the green bar (not the one in the banner). You'll find many times the problem is a loose or out-of-place wheel sensor.

Don't know of a reason the cruise control would be nonfunctional related to the abs problem. But search for it as well; many previous discussions on cruise control problems.
Good luck
John

Sometimes this can happen with older Rangies, but I haven't seen it on a Disco.

With respect to the Cruise control, the most common failure mode is loss of vacuum in the tee near the bulkhead. Look for the vacuum line running to the dashpot on the side of theplenum, follow it back to the tee and look for cracking, etc. Next, the vacuum line can become dislocated from the vacuum release switch on the brake pedal stalk. Finally, it could be the brake light switch, or one of the relays.

Peace,
Paul

Thanks for the replys. I am certain the loss of the cruise is directly related to the malfunction of the ABS. Other vehicles, such as Volvo's use the wheel sensors in conjuction with the ABS system. I was hoping there was a way to access the ABS codes without a dedicated reader. I've already cleaned and re-seated all four wheel sensors. I'll keep searching for some info..thanks

For anybody who's been looking at this post..I talked to Rover today..looks like there is no way to access ABS codes, except thru the OBDII system. I tried, but my scan tool isn't pulling up any ABS codes. Looks like I'll have to ignore it or let the dealer take a crack at it.

most likely cause for the ABS is a sensor out of whack. just shove them back in and it should clear up.
