My 95 Disco (auto trans) has been making a low pitched groaning whine when at idle. It doesnt make a difference what gear i'm in, its just at idle. when i tap the gas to increase the idle, the sound goes away. I got out of the car and put my head in the engine bay while it was making that noise, but i couldnt hear it over the engine noise. It sounds like it may be coming from the transmission hump inside the car. Any suggestions? Any help is always appreciated.

It is most likely the belt/tensioner bearing. There was a TSB issued for this that suggested replacing the bearing (6203-RSJ if I remember correctly) and the belt. Of course, I found the TSB reference after replacing my power steering pump, bearing, etc. Paul |

Thanks paul, i'll check it out. However, I did replace the tensioner bearing with the NAPA bearing (part # floating around on these boards) last summer. Since I bought an extra, I'll go ahead and replace it and the belt together this weekend. |

I dont think thats the problem. I sprayed some wd-40 on the pulley and belt and the groaning sound remained. Besides, the belt and pulley bearing were replaced in the summer. Thanks, though. I hate to take it in to a shop. |
