I have to share a success story that I am obviously excited about.

Several months ago, I posted that my 95 Disco was shuttering, stuttering, and shaking at the 55 mph mark. The engine also seemed low on power. I received great advice on this problem from fellow d-webers and the majority stated that it was the VSS. I ordered a VSS from Nathan (thanks Nathan!) and installed the part. It didn't fix my problem. Nathan was very helpfull in giving me more tips to check out.

I was at my local NAPA store on Saturday and purchased a bottle of fuel additive to help clean the injectors, valves, etc. I don't recall what brand but it was in a black bottle and was about $9.00. I added it to an empty tank (maybe 1 gallon left) and added about 12 gallons as directed on the bottle. Sure enough, it runs great now. The power is back, it shifts smoother than ever and doesn't shake, shutter, stutter etc anymore. It is probably good that I went ahead and replace the VSS, Wires and plugs since my motor is at 130K anyway. But I need to remember to do the little things first. I had an old guy tell me once while playing a game of pool to always take the obvious shot. I am not really a low risk person, but this makes sense. If I would have just put the injector cleaner in first, I could have saved several hundred bucks.

Brendan,

I was at Roverland this morning for stuck-open sunroofs - and a major storm predicted today for the Bay Area. Luckily, Philippe was unable to help me on short notice due to a full schedule, so I was on my own.

Within minutes of posting here, fellow d'webbers had some hints for patching the problem and/or sorting it completely. I'd skipped over the obvious - having only checked the fuses as specified in the manaul and missed a blown 10A for the alarm.

A $65 - 100 day just turned into a $.10 morning. I bet there are a million stories out there where "keep it simple" was the best advice!

Cheers,

e

Brendan:
I'll bet what you bought was a bottle of Techron. Seems to be the best tune-up-in-a-bottle there is and with the price tag, it had damned well better be.

Judging from the improvement you experienced, I'd be equally willing to bet that your fuel system is probably pretty gunked up and might benefit from a new fuel filter, cleaning of the inside of the fuel rail and injector replacement or cleaning.

I just got a donor set of injectors to have cleaned. With luck, my idle will smooth out and my starting will equally improve. As this is just about the only thing I haven't done to my truck, it HAS to work:-).

Peace,
Paul

That (Techron) sounds right. Now I wished I kept the bottle. I will definatley take your advice about replacing the filter and checking out the rest of the stuff.

Techrons great stuff. Made by Chevron and recomended by Jaguar for close to 20 years. Also you can cut the bottom off and it makes a great funnel which is not a bad idea because Techron will eat thru a lot of types of plastics.

See ya,
