I have seen quite a bit of discussion about Goodyear and Firestone tires on here. I have a 97 Disco XD that I just installed OME shocks and springs on and also Interco's new Trxus tire in 235/85R16 size. They run very well and are relatively quiet on the road. To top it off, they look really mean! lol The price is actually less than for the Firestones or Goodyears. If you are thinking about larger meats, you might look into them.

Paul,
Not knocking your decision, but I had TrXus for about a year and ended up selling them. I had three sidewalls go in one month. I couldn't deal with that any more. So I went to Goodyear MT/R's and have yet to blow a sidewall. I would advise anyone to do a search and decide for themselves. Granted I probably used the tire a lot rougher than others. I suppose one who doesn't drive them over sharp rocks would be fine. My biggest problem is that I don't think they truly represent the durability of the Interco name. of course lately every 4 Wheel Drive magazine must be getting paid for their tire test by Interco as they all worship anything that Interco produces.

Just another man's opinion.

I have 255/85 interco M/T's on my 97 and I really like them. I drive in alot of limestone around where I live and think the sidewalls are great. The only problem I am having with mine is the lugs tearing up. Almost every side lug is missing a piece of rubber. The center section is fine. The ride is good and the road noise is alot quieter compared to a bias ply swamper. The tires are awesome in loose dirt, mud and pretty good on rocks. I air mine down to 20psi the last few times, I am going to try and go a little lower next time I get out.

I've got 255/85 trxus's and they are great.
I was wondering what psi i should run these at on the road. All other tires i run at 32 or so. Never fooled with tires this size before.

BTW, i don't air down and haven't had any problems yet.

Blake, running higher pressure you'll notice bumps and crap alot more, but your tires will thank you for it as you'll get more mileage that way. I can see it both ways. If you run low pressure, around 30 your ride will definitely feel better, but those tires sure would heat up during long drives I would imagine. On the other hand, if you ran like 60-70 psi you would wear the tread in the middle of your tire, thus wearing them out quicker. I'm definitely not a tire expert, but I do drive a shitload. On the Futura Enforcer M/T's I put around 35k on them and they still had some tread left. I always ran them at 40 as well. When you coming up here Blake? Did you get that Capn D's link I sent you?

Anyone out there running any other Interco tires? In particular the Super Swamper TSL radials, or just Super Swamper TSL? Does running a 33" tire facilitate up grading to a more heavy duty axle like a 24 spline, or can you still run 33's on 10 spline axels? Other questions, how bad is the road noise, how was do they wear doing about 75% road 25% off road? Do the radials really make that big a difference, I have heard they do. Thanks

the 255/85/16's are just shy of a 33"
i'm still stock on my drivetrain. the TruXus are fairly quiet tires, at least compared to the General MT's that they replaced.

How about Prentice Cooper or Monteagle? Monteagle was alot more fun, but we'd have to find someone who knows their way around there. Lets start up a discussion in the trails section to keep this off of the tech section.. later.. RS

Paul,
I have 32x9 Super Swamper TSL (bias plys)...Its hard to say how long they will last, but i would guess i will get something like 20-25K out of them. I love them, they are so sweet off road...I air them down to about 16psi and they work great.

Also, they really arent TOO loud on the road.
They are louder than my MTRs for sure, but it doesnt bother me.

IMHO, you should upgrade your axles. But thats just me...I would rather upgrade now and not have to worry about them on the trail. However, many people have had good luck with 33"+ tires on their stock axles...

From what i have heard, the radial TSL is quite an improvement over then non radial TSL. This summer, i plan to get the TSL Radials in either a 265/80/16 (that sounds like a sweet size, BTW) or in a 33x12.50....so I'll see how the radials compare to the bias plys...

Thanks Will, I would ultimitly like to upgrade my axles to 24 spline with 4.10 ring and pinions, maybe locking diffs maybe not, however I am in the middle of a pricy trans swap and manifold and new carb deal. I am looking at the Interco Trxus mud terrain 255/85/16 since those are about 33" and I wouldn't have to buy new rims just fender flares. In the end though I would like to do it right and just upgrade the axles and do TSL radials since those seem like the way to go. Thanks for your input.

When you do it right get the tsl sx
I had some and they were awesome, the have big side lugs down the wall of your tire. Great grip.

Paul, I have the 255/85's on my truck. I have a 2" CB lift and a 2" rovertym body lift and the tires fit great.I had baught fender flares for my truck but only used the fronts. Really I dont think I even needed those on there, I put them on before I got the tires. I would bet the tires will work with out the fender flares if you had a 3" or so lift.

When I went wheeling today I ran my MT's down to 12psi, and they were awesome. I started at 20psi but went to 12psi once I got into some loose rock. Some guys I was with were running 4psi with bead locks and were really doing good. On the interstate I upped my pressure from 30 to 35psi and that was a much better handling ride at 70MPH.
