I think my front driver's side window regulator needs to be replaced. The motor is working but the window will only go down about 1" untill the popping and grinding starts. It is a '97 DI. I am planning on switching this thig out this weekend - does anyone have any pointers? I looked at the tech section on the rear window, is the front pretty much the same? Hopefully someone has that one peice of advice / information that will keep me from going insane during this repair!! |

This happened to my 97 discovery aswell. I used a nylon zip tie and some J.B. Weld to hold the wheel back on the regulator arm. It worked for a while (3 weeks). Im gonna try the thing in the tech section too before I give up and just replace the whole thing. My right rear is broke too. I fixed it with duct tape. |

Andrew, Had my driver door window regulator self destruct itself a few months ago, it would only go down a fe inches, same symptoms as you. It eventually broke and I had to use vice grips and tape to hold the window up. The repair was easy, make sure its warm out when you take off the door panel, as the clips snap off. Just mark where the screws for the old one were and you should be able to slip the new one in no problem. You should have another pair of hands to hold the window, dont want that shattering! Other then that just take a good look at the old on before you take it out and you should have no problem. Matt |
