I am curious what types of fluids people are using, I.E. engine oil, auto trans fluid, brake fluid, radiator, ECT... I want to completely drain my Rover and load up fresh fluids but can't seem to find a good source explaining the correct fluid types and amounts. Any ideas?

Check out your owners manual for the ammounts.

-Brake Fluid: You MUST use Castrol GT LMA only. Some will say you can use others, but I would not risk it.

-Engine Oil: I personally prefer Valvoline or Havoline 10W-30, if you are in pretty warm area, I would use 10W-40.

Auto Trans: Dexron-III/Mercon.

Coolant: Just use 50% Green stuff and 50% water.

I personally do not use Synthetics. They have their advantages, but you will most likely get more leaks.

In my '93 RRC with 128K kms, I use:

Engine - 5w-50 Formula 1 Synthetic (Canadian Tire brand)

Auto Trans/Power Steering - Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF (Dextron III)

Rear Ends - Formula 1 Synthetic 75w-90 Gear Oil

Brake Fluid - Castrol LMA

Coolant - 70% Prestone/30% Distilled Water

And I don't have any more leaks than I did with dino oils, although I won't say I don't have leaks but not that bad in any event.

Bill,
Isn't that a little to much anti-freeze in the mix? From what I have seen/heard over 50% and you will start to corrode the inside of you radiator pretty bad.

I'm using 15-40 (the same oil you'd use in your RV) for my 94lwb and it loves it.

Drain the oil, pour a bottle of ProLong in, dump a handful of sand in. You're set!!!

Actually, on my jug of green stuff a 70/30 mix is recommended for temps to -50C and since we got to -40C this winter, that's what I'm going by. My '93 RRC has spent most of its life in Northern Ontario and so far so good in regard to evident cooling system problems.
