The old Disco is approaching 9 years of age and the Bilsteins are probably 50-55,000 miles old. How do I tell if those bad boys need replacing?

My shocks are that age too, and I think they are fine. But if you still have the original bushings on with over 90k-100k consider starting to replace them. Big difference when you do!

After going over a bump (speed bump) does the vehicle bounce like a little kid on a trampoline or a fat lady on a diving board? Does it continue to bounce after going over the bump? When you push down on the front or jump on the rear bumper how does it rebound...? Does it come back up slowly or does it spring and bounce?

Bils can last a VERY long time. My second RR has had a set for almost 100k and they are perfect. The set on my BMW has seen about 230k and have been fine until just recently.

Great reminder about the bushes but, I changed mine out with poly's about 45K ago. Sounds as if everything is okay, it doesn't bounce like a fat lady on a diving board or continue to bounce after being depressed. They're rusty but not leaking. I think I found out where the real problem is. I took delivery of a Mini Cooper S day before yesterday and every other vehicle I drive feels like it needs suspension work. Duh!
