Hi, I'm getting a high idle in my '96 discovery (around 2-3K). I read the archives and thought it might be the idle control valve, but after replacing this nothing has changed. I noticed that the hose from near the ICV to what looks like the oil reservoir was old, so I replaced this too to no avail. Anyone ever have this problem before and find a solution without taking it to the dealer? And what is the purpose of that hose that I did replace. I talked with the parts guy at the dealer and he said that it could be the bolt that controls the idle under that silver cap near the idle control valve, but after looking at that I have no idea how to change that, and figured that the bolt could not have moved anyways. I appreciate any help. Kevin Crofton If anyone has a good LR mechanic in the Atlanta area that would also be appreciated. |

I'm having similar problems with my 96. When the clutch is depressed the idle races to about 2K. In addition, the idle will then fall and will sometimes recover to 700 or stall. I had it looked at locally and some cleaning of the valve you mentioned and a plunger fixed the problem for about 2 weeks. It's now back and I'm going to the dealer on Monday. I'll let you know what the deal is once I mor than likely pay out a grand. I hope not. I actually started a new thread on it. |

I had the same problem about three months ago. The idle would stay between 2,400 - 2,600 rpms. I replaced the Idle Air Control Valve too and it did not help. I finally caved and took it to the dealer who charged me $68.00 to reprogram the ECU. It's been running great at 700 rpm ever since. |
