When using my 1993 diesel Disco to plow throught he dirt roads to my farm in the rainy season, I had to change my pads front & back every 5000km ( I did the work myself so I know I wasn't being 'done' by a bad mechanic) using my 1993 V8i disco on the motorway I have had to change them twice in 40k. So I think it all comes down to how much dirt & cr*p they have to deal with, obviously if you live in mud then your discs will soon get heavily scorred and then they eat your pads, I even got little stones jammed in between the callipers and the discs. |

The disco is heavy so it will eat through pads a little more than the average car. It all depends on your driving habits. I see people that drive with their left foot on the brake all the time and I am sure they go through pads every couple 1k miles. City or rural driving is a big factor along with the terrain whether its mountains or flat, etc. I drove mine for 10k miles after purchasing before I needed to change the pads. Mine was dealer maintained at every interval in the LR Passport until I bought it at 112k miles but haven't looked to see how long the pads were on before I bought it. It really simple to change the pads yourself. Just make sure its an organic/ceramic pad and not a semi-metallic. The rear pads rarely have to be changed. New front pads average $50-70 a set. |

My experience has been 35K for the fronts, and 70K for the rears. |

Mine look like about 60K. Changed them for the first time there, now at 92K with about 3/4 of the material left. Manual transmission. |

I'm averaging about 30 K on the fronts,(just put on my 3rd set, w/rotors at 93K) although my mechanic tells me that here in LA people who do a lot of around town driving get significantly less. |
