When I depress the clutch the Rpm either races to 2k then recovers or falls to 0 and recovers or stalls. After huge labour bills, no one locally knows what the deal is and my 96 Disco is still not road worthy. I'm frustrated and confused. Any suggestions? |

I have the same problems and also a 96' 5 speed discovery. I had it diagnosed and they found that it is running rich and has gasket air leaks. They could not find anything else. I usually have this problem when it is cold out. I don't think that anything can override the mechanical gas pedal input, so if it is not a bad or dirty stepper motor or sensor, I would guess that the problem is a vacuum leak. I am having it diagnosed at Robison Service and they only found the air leak, so they will use a new gasket and put everything together right after fixing the sticky valves. Any other ideas? |

I'm sorry, obviously nothing overrides the throttle and the bypass idle valve is what controls the idle, so the idle control valve is usually the culprit but in my case it was checked out and is working fine, so your problem could be elsewhere. |

The idle control valve was inspected and my mechanic thought that would be the problem but it appeared to be okay. They manually manipulated some plunger in the throttle assembly somewhere because it appeared to be sticking and my Disco ran fine for about a week and a half. 2 days ago it started acting up again. The throttle body was also cleaned. I also replaced the air filter and ensured everything was sealed properly. That's about all that has been done so far. |
