Just wondering if there are any other people on the board that are interested in Meccano? Anyone building anything interesting at the moment?

As an aside, anyone on the board who is not into Meccano but who has some lying around the house that they want to get rid of, or know of somebody who does, give me a shout off board.

Yeah it sure does kick ass. I couldn't quite remember if meccano was a kind of smelly cheese or that old erector set stuff I used to play with (Trevor's post could've been talking about cheese, I guess) so I did a search and that diff was one of the things to come up. Very nice indeed.

On a somewhat related topic, I made a killer space ship and transport vehicle complete with trailer the other night with my old space leggos that my...uh...daughter was playing with :-)

Blue,

my lifetime achievement was to blend LEGO with toy railroad. I stopped short of computerizing the goddamn thing... what's left is a gigantic 5" Dia clock from a 1978 Buick framed in LEGO bricks. Very nice piece, I should say!

Man, that stuff brings back memories. I used to have a huge Meccano set when I was younger. Sad thing is, I can't remember what happened to it.

But who knows how to pronounce Meccano?

My Dad just got back into Meccano a few months ago (he's 82 this year). He goes to Meccano fairs in the UK and buys vast amounts of old Meccano. Keeps him occupied!

I have 2 large Meccano sets that I haven't played with in a good while, but with your mention of it I got an idea about building a CDL control for my 1999 D2 using Mecanno.....

I think that's something they should bring back,

I suppose video games are a younger generation's comic books, but with what will they hone their mechanical reasoning skills? Legos? I personally have never used Mecanno, but from what I've heard, we need something like it again.

Cheers,

Kennith

You can still buy them Kennith, mostly in educational or high end toys stores like FAO Schwartz etc.
