Disco died on my wife. She described weird electrical events (cd player stopped, anti lock light on, speedometer wildly erratic). She stopped to pick up my son at school, and the vehicle wouldn't start. Two hours later, I was able to start it and drive it home, but now the battery is too weak to start it again. I want to remove the alternator so I can have it tested. How do I remove the tension on the s belt so I can get the belt off. I did a search, but didn't find anything. Thanks. |

Joseph: To answer your question, put a wrench on the nut in the center of the tensioner and turn it clockwise, this will relieve the tension sufficiently to allow for belt removal. Garrett asked about your having replaced the belt as the misrouting of the drive belt often causes the problems you're having. Somewhere here, you'll find the belt routing diagram. I've taken many of these belts off and still need to have the diagram written on the shop wall (someday I'll have it tattooed on my wrist!). Also, it is usually better to test on the truck as you can test the entire charging system, rather than just testing the alternator. Peace, Paul |

Thanks. I tested it on the truck. Bad alt. Ordered one through Advance Auto. 199 plus core charge, available for pick up tomorrow AM. Now, I'll search for that belt diagram...Thanks again. |
