I have my truck at the dealer right now and they are claiming that my stepper motor is throwing and "open circuit" & they want to replace it ($262). This was my last resort because I have searched & searched for this part & I just can't find it. I went to a large AC Delco parts distributor and looked at almost ALL of the stepper motors and most are close...but the sleeve is too big & won't fit into the LR stepper motor's hole (I took measurements). I know some of you guys have replaced them recently and I need help please!!!! Even Nathan quoted my $189!!!

I took mine apart and cleaned it with brake cleaner. Put it back on and it works like new. Have you tried that?

What exactly is it doing? It it is throwing codes, it could be bad wiring. Does it stall when you are running the AC?

Greg here is exactly what the LR tech put on the report "DT found open circuit at stepper motor. Motor was cleaned by customer, needed to start with replacing IAS. May also need PCM. Checked harness OK, Motor has high OHMS, Checked ECT, Fuel Temp, Air Temp, Mass Flow, TPS & Fuel PSI. All OK." The tech told me that he bench tested the stepper motor & it wouldn't move at all...like the motor itself was burnt out. I found one at the Rover Connection for $110 & may just buy that. This problem started after I cleaned the IAS the first time...the truck was stalling big time basically at a stop or at start up. So I cleaned the IAS & now the truck won't idle at all..either 2000k or stalls. I just wanted the dealer to set the base idle but they won't without having the IAS working correctly...I kind of agree w/ that. I think that I moved the plunger on the IAS & screwed up whereever it was locked in position. I drove the truck today & after it was warmed up it idles at about 1000k...but stalls really bad while cold. Otherwise the truck runs really, really well.

My advice is to get one of someone who is parting out.
Try mack55@caveland.net

I just bought a switch from him. Might save you some money.
Put it on yourself (10 min job if you don't know what you are doing) and save more money.

I used AC Delco Part Number #25527077 on mine. It's a 3.9L but I believe all series 1 discos call for the same part number (you may want to check that out). I got mine at Autozone or Discount Auto for around $35.

Brent tried that part # unfortunately the 3.9 & the 4.0 stepper motor are different. The 4.0 has a flange w/2 small bolts on the sides instead of screw in. Appreciate it & I'll keep looking.

Here's two more to try NAPA 2-1738 and AC-151. I got those two from a friend in the parts biz. You might also give www.roverlandparts.com a try if your interested in a used one.

Good luck
