60K service is about due and I am going to try to do it all myself. The brakes need replacing now and at 60K LR recommends replacing the fluid. I am going to rebuild my front calipers as the seals are torn up, (no leaks though) my question is: 1. Am I going to face any serious problems due to ABS when draining the whole system? 2. Has anyone ever re-built DII calipers? Thanks for the help--Matt |

Avoid draining the system of fluid by clamping the brake hoses while the calipers are off. A drained system will probably be impossible for you to bleed. DII requires the Testbook for proper bleeding, using the pump to drive fluid through the ABS body. Otherwise you can't get the air out. I have my doubts as to how effectively you can change fluid in a DII at home because of this. More exactly, you can pump fluid through thereby getting fresh liquid into the system, but air trapped in the ABS body probably won't get removed. So if you have a soft pedal (big DII problem) it will probably stay that way. John www.robisonservice.com John www.robisonservice |

Why rebuild the calipers? If they are not leaking the seals can't be that bad. Just syphon off the brake fluid from the MC and do it again in a week. You can definately bleed a DII successfully without test book. If you clamped off the hoses it would probably work out ok. Ron |

I guess I will give it a try. The seals just looked pretty torn up when I replaced my pads, but as you said if they are not leaking then they cant be that bad. --Matt |
