How do you reset the transimission heat light thing in the dash? I used my emergency brake to get down a hill after breaking a brake line. Now the transmission light won't go off. Will un-hooking the neg. cable on the battery do it? 97 discovery |

OK, I've tried to unhook the neg. battery cable for about one hour and that did not work. Any other ideas? |

Hi Probably wasn`t a good idea to use the handbrake in this way, it is a transmission brake and acts on the back of the transfer box, and is designed to hold vehicle stationary. The transmission light will probably need resetting at a dealer. Pete S |

On most Land Rovers the transmission light is operated by a temp switch in the transmission cooler pipe. There is no computer to reset. If the light is on the switch is bad, there is a wiring problem, or the trans is overheated. Computers have nothing to do with it. Look for the switch in the cooler lines under the power steering reservoir. The switch is in the metal pipe. John www.robisonservice.com

Thanks J.E. I unpluged the sender and the light went out. I pluged it back in and the light came back on. Wonder if Rovers North has this item? |

They do...just got one a couple of weeks ago from them. Be sure to have them send you the copper crush washer with that because it is not included and no one, I mean no one stocks that size and type of crush washer. Les at roversnorth send me a couple for free after I received the part and it leak ATF all over my car and driveway. So don't change the sensor out until you get the washer too. Ed |
