ok, I went to fuel up my d1, and after opening the fuel door, a black plastic ring dropped out.
Looks like a split o ring, only it is thin, hard plastic about 1/8 " wide. I can't determine if it came out of the gas cap. The diameter looks to be approx that of the inside of the cap, but it does not seem to fit back in. Any hints as to where this goes?

It used to hold the cap to the neck before it broke.

That wouldn't happen in Oregon, we aren't allowed to pump our own gas.

R.B., surely you're kidding? Do you mean that there aren't any self-serve gas stations in Oregon? What's up with that?

NJ's the same way.... it's a racket to generate minimum-wage jobs.... if I lived in one of those states, I'd almost consider driving out-of-state to fuel up just because.....

Well if you lived in NJ you could drive to PA to spend 10cents more a gallon to pump it yourself.

You can't pump your own gas? That's one of the strangest things I have ever heard, is it mandated by the state? Is there any tax break to a small business owner for this? It sounds nuts to me.

WHY would you want to pump your own gas if you didn't have to? Although I do have a story about the NJ gas pumping situation. I was a passenger in a car with a rather excitable male, who was unfamiliar with NJ's law. He cursed up and down at the poor attendant, grabbed the pump out of the guy's hand, and threatened to flatten him if he tried to "touch his car again." The attendant stood his ground. I thought they were going to go at it right there. Of course we were all mortified with his behavior, but what an interesting way to be introduced to that law!

Yeah Ron, I've noticed that as well. Strangest thing. Petrol in NJ is less expensive...AND you don't even have to pump it. You can remain seated while counting the pennies you're saving to buy more shit for your Disco!! What an efficient concept!

Ah! Okay, if it's cheaper then, sure..... full-service here runs 30cts/gal more than self-serve, if not more.... that's why I balked at mandatory full-service. If they can have it, and charge the same price, fine....

For any of you who don't want to pump your own gas you can move to California! You can pump your own for $2.35 / gal!
