Everyone has a different opinion on what rock sliders are the best for various reasons. However, does anyone have any good reasons for liking one type over another? Everyone seems to have the rovertym but I think I like the cleaner look of the safari gard sliders, yes I did say $G Sliders. Actually the SG rock sliders are cheaper than the rovertym. Any pluses or deltas of either slider? Thanks

Here's my .02-
On a Disco or RRC, the sliders should either be mounted to the frame or the body, not both. There is too much built in body/frame flex on the diso/rrc for a slider that attaches to both the frame and body.
I've personally seen $G sliders fold on (1) rrc, (2) d-90's, and (1) D1. I have not had the opportunity to see RTE's sliders in action, but if they are anything like the rest of John's products, they're super stout.
Body protection is one thing I would not try to save a buck on.

Does anybody have any info/experience with Trek Outfitters sliders? I like the design and style, and they look to be pretty solid. Ever heard about them bending? It seems that there aren't too many people running these and I wonder why.

The third set I ordered from T/O finally fit the D2 I was installing them on. Granted, this was very early on in T/O's history, so who knows. Construction seemed very similar to the $g slider, but I have not seen them in action. In reality, I think any of them will work just fine in 95% of the hits they take. Just depends, are you a 5% kinda guy?

I have a set of SG sliders, and they have held up well. Rovertym was not started yet when I bought my sliders. I have seen John's sliders in action as well, and they are super solid.
If I were to buy sliders today, I would probably go with John for two reasons, his products are very well built, and his customer service is lightyears ahead of SG.

i went with the treks myself -
in the little group i wheel with -
the rt's and sg's all showed
the classic banana syndrome.

the treks were more than the sg's
but - the extra $100 was better
than door damage imho

I went with the Rockware sliders, but I made little "mini sliders" to reinforce the sill. I have been very happy with the set up. Here is a pic of the mini sliders: ../2/1598.jpg

I went with Aedofab sliders. I like the cleaner look and lower cost. I think they are as strong or stronger than anything else out there.

Scroll through these for pics...

Tom,

How much does your truck weigh??

I have no clue. Are you curious about the weight of the bumpers & sliders? I think the front bumper is around 90 lbs. Email mike@aeod.net for the weights of the other stuff and to verify the front bumper weight.

Tom,

Do your sliders have a camber to them to follow the body or are they straight?

Thanks
Trevor

They follow the body for the DI, for the DII ones that mount to the frame they are straight and you cut the plastic sills down to go along the line.

Trevor, you have a DII or a DI, I was over there last week and took some pics of a DII in the shop and the stuff they are doing. Looked pretty cool..

Tom-
I think we all like the Aedofab stuff, but non of us live down the street from his shop. Looks like he is into one-off fabs, and would need a vehicle present. The competition is mail order, and therefore a much easier option for most.
Don't get me wrong, I am impressed :)

Craig,

Did he turn you down or something? Who said you couldn't order from him? To my understanding, he will sell to anyone, but maybe there is something I don't know. If so, let me know and I will stop showing people what I have. I definately don't want to steer anyone towards something they can't have. I apologize if that is the case.

Tom

p.s. I spelled the email wrong up there. it's mike@aedo.net

I tried contacting Mike when his GCherokee first hit the scene, and never got an answer. I do like the looks of the bumpers, not so much the sliders, but whatever... I think he could sell a lot of product, with a decent site, and examples of what he offers for Rovers. I think his Rover stuff looks waaaaay better than his J**p products.

Keep the pics coming Tom, I always enjoy seeing different approaches to armor etc...

Not trying to shoot anyone down here, just relaying what limited experience I have w/ Aedofab.

Regards,
Craig

tom -

i contacted aedofab for sliders
once and he had nothing on the shelf
and would be a month or two out.

he's a great guy to talk to on the
phone....but none of his pricing
was certain....

perhaps he's doing better now? - but
he seems to take an awfull long time
to get stuff done..... how long
was your truck there before he even
touched it?

i'd say the aedofabs are the beefiest
sliders - but when you need them in a
timely manner for a trip- i don't he's
the answer. IMHO!

Hi Steve and Craig,

I am from Canada and Mike supplied me with Aedofab front and rear bumpers and rock sliders - a little farther than down the street :) I am extremely pleased with both the quality and price. I know Mike is busy but it definitely is worth the wait.

Well, he is a one man shop. I guess it is up to you on wether or not you want to wait the time if he doesn't have anything together when you call.

I asked Mike a week or so ago about availability on D2 bumpers and he's very busy with current work and didn't want to over-commit anything, so just to keep and eye out as a thread would pop up when he's ready.
