To get right to it, circumstances have forced me to give up the Disco. Bigger family, more room, etc. I recently got a new Tahoe Z71. I've got mixed emotions. Less character, more power. Less rugged, more room. The contradictions go on. Anyway, my reason for posting (besides not really knowing or trusting anyone else in off-road matters) is that I've found that Chevy Tahoe drivers buy into a lot of aftermarket hype. Make a claim in an ad and these guys eat it up. Also, most of them don't seem to do the kind of 4-wheeling this group does. My question is, does anyone here know a reputable source for both info and mods for my new ride? I basically want to kit it out like the Disco with racks, lights, snorkel and front locker. I particularly can't find a snorkel. Also, as far as shocks and such, Rancho seems to be king in Chevy land. Any thoughts? Any thoughts on how this beast will do offroad? Problems, weak spots, etc.? Sorry for the ramble. I'm bummed, I'm happy. I just want that lovin' offroad feeling again. T- |

Take off the radiator cap and drive a Disco under it. Cheers! And good luck.

How about 4wheelparts.com? I'don't think anyone makes a snorkle for chevys, but check on Safari Snorkles from ARB. I remember reading that Muskyman's scouts snorkle was from another vehicle that he and arb worked together on getting set up. Call them and tell them what you want, maybe they can help you out. I see lots of lifted and all done up tahoes out here in Utah. Not offroad mind you, but they look cool. Rancho's suck, they leak and break, you could go with bilsteins or procomps, check with 4wheel parts. |

i'd just keep the tahoe stock. i doubt the aftermarket "kit" will heighten your love for the tahoe. won't even come close to what disco is in EVERY sense. so just hang tight, drive the tahoe the way it is from factory, save the cash and get a disco later on. we'll be here waiting for your return. ... not that you are going anywhere. a friend of mine spent forever looking for a 4-by, and ended up with a Suburban (for his large family of 3 people). Recently, we met and he was passing on to me all the excitement of four-wheeling: "we go to the desert often, and get stuck every time! why don't you sell your jeeps and land rovers, so you can get stuck, too?" |

Hey Tripp, I'm w/ HO, save your $$. It'll never fill the Disco hole so don't even try. Do the time and when you can buy another LR. How big is your family anyhow??????????? |

Someone makes snorkles for chevy's cause Pierce Brosnan (sp?) had one on his chevy suburban in the movie Dante's Peak. |

That was a custom made by arb Safari Snorkle for the movie. At least that what's I read on dweb somewhere. When I stay at work for stupid deadlines for 24 hours straight, I seem to be able to remember stupid shit like that. I hate work! |

The Tahow Z71 is a step above the regular Tahoe 4x4 anyway. I would look into a locker from your local 4x4 shop, and then maybe upgrade to Pro Comp shocks and lift. First thing I would do is run off to the tire shop and fit the big meats. Don't bother with a snorkel. Ron Ward |

Yeah, don't try to make it something it's not, no amount of cash will make it a mountain goat like the Rovers and Jeeps... it's just too big. The Tahoe is excellent at what it does, carry people and gear, tow anything, and (probably) gve you years and years of trouble-free service. If it were me, I'd get better shocks, maybe some skids, ARB locker in the rear, fit the biggest meats you can, and leave it at that. |

Thanks guys for all the comments. You're right in that it'll never be what my disco was. I'll do the time, then get another. The Z71 does need better shocks. I'll probably go with Bildsteins, then move up to 285's. Fortunately, it comes with a locker in the rear and skids alread on. I'll be back to Roverland. |

Used to be, but now it's 4 doors, 3 kids, 2 dogs and 1 wife. Yeah, I definitely paid too much. |
