a while back i posted about a stalling problem i was having..car runs great but every few hundred miles or so the car would start sputtering and sometimes die...usually i could acelerate and decelerate and it would go away or just pull over and resart and everything would be fine. some times the check engine light would come on or the battery light would while stalling.

my mechanic told me to just loosen the gas cap to see if it was excess pressure...well that seemed to work...nothing happened for over 400 hundred miles...then today it started again..gas cap was accidently put on tight again and loosened yesterday..the car has been stalling today, getting check engine or battery lights...

what could it be? clogged charcoal filter possibly causing excess pressure to build up or could it be something else..plugs wires hoses o2 senosors all checked. thanks for any help by the way 93 lwb

Check under your passenger's seat and see if you are throwing any codes.

theres no codes showing.. its weird i spoke with philipe at roverland and he was really puzzled as well. i came up with a possible charcoal filter being clogged. but that usually doesnt need replacing until 100k. anyway i am going to check for possible raw fuel being in there. does anyone have any suggestions any other ideas?

please point to the other thread so i can see what you checked so far.

have you systematically gone thru and checked everything according to the land rover manual yet?

i think it might be coincidence with the gas cap.

maybe something like a plugged injector or the rotor has a hairline crack or something of that nature. i need to see your first post.

cap and rotor have been checked
wires and plugs
hoses, t piece, stepper motor checked
o2 sensors checked
ruled out vss

have not gone through the manual because i dont have one yet. someone is supposed to be sending me one on cd. havent received it yet. could use those pages though

the truck runs great other than that problem. it occurs at speed or while going slow. happens every hundred miles or so. usually i can accelerate then decelerate and it goes away or i can turn off the truck and it restarts just fine no problems. the truck runs strong so i dont think its injector related..maybe though. thoughts

charcoal canister this weekend will be checked

WHAT ENGINE? ANY CODES? THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH STICKING EXHUAST VALVES. ALSO FUEL RAILS RUST AND IT GETS TO THE INJECTORS.DOES IT GET WORSE WITH ELECTRICAL LOADS ON.I HAVE FIXED SEVERAL TRUCKS BY REPLACING ALTERNATOR.(INCLUDING MY OWN,IN WHICH I DID A GM CONVERSION)

no its not affected by running lights, ac, radio, etc etc.. i dont get any ticking sounds at start up from exhaust valves...i hoping thats not the case. you know though sometimes when the car has died i have gotten a low battery light on the dash. i checked the alternator and it looks new...and it is charging.
the engine is a 4.2 im not getting any codes. i thought with sticky valves i might get some miss fire codes etc etc...but nothing. any thoughts here.
