under the car on top of the transmission. what is that all about?! am i just not seeing the benefit, other than making dealer service more necessary. |

My uneducated guess would be they did this to seal the transmission up better than a long tube with a dipstick will. |

Many new vehciles are going with the "sealed for life" philosophy - has nothing to do with sealing the pan. Many auto trans now beiong produced have no fill or drain whatsoever - you'll probably see more and more of this. Not good for a towing or trail rig, but for the average Joe - it works just fine. Even Ford's new Torqshift (behind the 6.0 powerstroke) is "sealed for life" and it was designed to tow. Bill |

If the fill is on top of the then how do you know when it is full upon re-filling it. I am planning on changing my fluid this weekend but the more I read about this the more of a pain it seems. |
