I have a 99 Series I. 42k miles and I paid in that range for it and so far I am very happy. No problems yet, besides the person who had it before me ran the pads into the rotors :-( but it was easy enough to change them out, did a OME lift at the same time.

Dave,

A suggestion, learn to search the archives here, this has been covered billions of times.

In short, though, A DII is longer, doesn't have CDL like the DI. Some other visible differences are things like the door-handle style and the rear lights moved up higher on the rear pillars. No ACE or ETC on a D1 (which is good, IMHO).

I used a '99 DI as my daily driver for 2 years, and have to admit that I miss it. My Roo's a lot more fun on-road and gets double the gas mileage, but I miss the Rover's room, getting off road in my "commuter", etc.

It may eventually develop valve issues, as most Rover 4.0L V8s seem to, but maybe not. Other than that, it'll serve you fine.

IMHO, FWIW...

I bought a 99 D1 through eBay at the end of February with 62000 miles. Look through the web site first so the leaks and such don't scare you. Truck threw a code in the second week, ended up with a bent valve and $1250 repair bill. Putting a headlight switch in this weekend. All that being said...the truck is cool, support on this web site is great and even the service at my local LR dealer was good (not what you might expect reading some of the literature on this site). All in all, I wanted an adventure and it continues!

I have no expirience with 99 D1s, but what I can say in regards to all D1s as a whole, is that the build quality gets better as you move up. My 96 D1 seems to have more problems then with my 97 D1. From what I have heard, the 99s are the best in terms of quality.
