I'm trying to trace my rear left and right brake light wire but I have no idea where it's running from or to. I have no left and right brake light and I discovered it's not the bulbs or the fuses or the bulb holders because I replaced all of those. I tested the connector to the rear light assembly and the connection for the rear brake lights only has no power running to or from it and I need to know how to trace the wire. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or can tell me how to trace that wire and where it might be located? Thanks for all your help.. Raymond 97 Disco |

Has your truck ever had a trailer wiring harness? All the tail lights pass through the right rear corner of the vehicle where there is a plug for the trailer harness. Some violence could have come to that harness during the addition or removal of trailer wiring. Just take the cover off inside as if you are accessing the right tail-lights (the owners manual has pictures of accessing this for bulb replacement, I think). The seven pin round plug has all the brake and turn signals for the trailer sub-harness to plug into. There is also a tech article on discoweb on the trailer harness that has pictures. -jeff |

Danno: We went through the brake switch already, he is able to shift, therefor the circuit controlling the lights is being made by the switch-presumably yes, but it's unlikely it is the switch. |

Guys it's not the switch. The actual wire that runs from the rear brake light,,where does it run in the truck? Is it under the carpet or under the truck. I'm trying to find out where the break in the wire is that causing my brake lights to not come on and why I'm not getting any power to the connector on the light assembly. There has to be a broken wire somewhere but I'm not sure how to trace it. |

Hi Ray, The harness to the rear runs down the roof rails under the headliner. This car also has the famous header junctions.Check HJ3 a slate one in the harness that runs under the blower motor. It gets wet and turns green. It runs down the roof to another header HJ12 in the left rear corner behind the upper trim. It splits to each rear lamp there and to the high mounted stop lamp. Does that work? It is a green purple wire. |

Jim, The middle light works. I'm just not getting any power to my left and right brake light only. SO how do I trace this wire again? Are you saying it's in the roof of the truck? |

Yes the wires are in the roof, Remove the plug to the rear lights and check with a test light for power at the green purple wire when you step on the brake. Check for ground at pin4 a black wire. If both of these check out ok. the problem is in the lamps themselves. |
