I never heard that. Though I would be interested in knowing if there is any truth to that. I have a '98 LSE.

What are the differences? Chrome bumpers, painted front airdam and Lightstone leather interior? I couldn't imagine Special Vehicles being responsible for that. It's possible though. The do make the bullet-proof Rangies...

Well, I'm now wondering if there isn't some truth to this? I was looking at my drive shafts the other day and they are definitely not roto flex shafts. They have u joints front and back and on both ends with grease zerks attached. And I am the only owner since new. I would still like to know if there is any validity to this.

Actually 98-99 d-1's went to u-joint drive shafts and did away from the roto-flex. My 95 has zerk's front and rear. Before my buddy sold his 98 le I took his u-jointed drive shaft with zerks all around. I think the 98 LSE was the 50th aniversary addition, but nothing more special than color and stickers. I do like that goldish green color.

yeah I liked the wheels. there was an LSE package on some disco's that had everything but the shiny bumpers and same color as body endcaps on bumpers.

phil.. those were the late 97 lse. Most of the lses were 98s, and all d1s after 97 had u-joints. For the most part.

I had a '98 LSE 50th Ann. Edition. Beautiful machine, got a lot of stares and responses. But basically the color, leather color, special floormats and stickers was all the difference in it and the others that year.

Hi
If LRSV had anything to do with them, there should be a LRSV plate under the hood.
All the best

CJ, not all LSE's in '98 were 50th anniversary additions. The anniversary additions were LSE's with the green gold paint. LSE of the '98 year had lightstone leather with wood accents on dash, center console, doors and shifter knob, chrome bumpers, different rims and body color bumper end caps and mirrors. Also they were fully optioned. The only option above the base LSE was rear seats and rear air. Everything was considered package standard.

I have never been able to prove or disprove LR Special Vehicle division manufacturing the LSE model. The below data is a sample of what I have been researching on the LSE. I can’t post everything but if you have a question, I’m sure I have an answer. Enjoy!!!

The following information is from page 21 of Land Rover Journal Issue Number Two (Spring / Summer 1998).

Discovery's anniversary-edition model is based on the LSE, which is already fully equipped with luxury features like extensive wood and leather trim, including a leather-covered cubby box and shifter. The anniversary-edition Discovery is offered in the same Woodcote green exterior as the Range Rover. Inside this special-edition Discovery, the Bahama Beige leather-clad seating is accented by Lightstone piping, Leather faced grab handles are also standard. High-performance TWR alloy wheels highlight the aggressive stance and dual-purpose nature of this special 50th Anniversary-Edition Discovery. The number of 50th Anniversary Range Rovers and Discovery’s will be extremely limited. Only 325 Range Rovers and 550 Discovery’s are scheduled to be offered in North America.

Page 52
The Discovery LSE is even more distinguished. First, it is exclusively available in five exterior colors -- White Gold, Beluga Black, Oxford Blue and in limited quantities, British Racing Green and Willow. Open the doors and notice the stainless-steel threshold garnish. Chrome bumper insert and color-keyed exterior fittings make the LSE stand out. New alloy wheels and bright chrome inserts within the exterior moldings add flare. Discovery LE's AM/FM/cassette/Weather-Band audio system is upgraded in the LSE to a Harman / Kardon system with a standard six disc CD auto-changer, conveniently mounted under the front passenger seat.

I have a 50th anniversary model. It has all as mentioned by Ira but does not have stickers or the LSE side plate. It has a brass plaque on the dash stating #35 of 50 in Canada. Beautiful vehicle and has never given me any problems other than regular upkeep. These are great 4x4's.

I have an anniversary edition 98. It is champagne in color with the bahama beige interior but no fancy piping on the seats. It has the woodgrain accents on the inside. The bumper caps are black though and it has the chrome accents in the body molding and the nicer wheels. Mine was produced in 9/97 so it was one of the first to be made. No roto flex couplings.
