2000 miles ago I had my D2 serviced. It was the 30,000 mile service. Last week I started to hear something odd down below. It kind of sounded like something was wrong with my drive shaft. Anyway, I did a visual inspection and found a leak under my transfer box. The origin of the leak ended up being a bad out-put seal on the transmission. Since I live three hours from the nearest dealership I ended up getting screwed big time by the service manager. He didn't authorize road side to deliver the truck back to me. $95 on a renter went down the drain. His reason was that the D2 had more than 500 miles on it!

Anyway, I get the vehicle back and one day later I noticed the sound again. To make a LONG story short . . . I drove from Arizona to Louisiana with a drive shaft that was on the verge of disconnecting. One of the velocity joints(think that's the name) between the transfer box and the drive shaft has been sheared off. After close inspection today, I realized that the dealership hadn't greased the nipples arond the universal joints. Everything was bone dry. I paid a lot of money for that shitty service.

Also, when I arrived to pick up my D2 . . . I crawled underneath to inspect. I found that they had not re-connected my temperature sensor. I asked a tech to check it over once more . . . and he did. TODAY!, I found more sensors disconnected on the top side of the transfer box!

This is shitty service. Get your vehicle worked on at your OWN RISK if you take it to Scottsdale. You've been warned.

What a story! I haven't had any bad experiences in terms of service performed, but they do try to get blood from a stone on the service they do perform. They were going to charge me an hour's shop rate to reprogram the remote on my 95 Disco. I asked my wife to try, and they fixed it for free. They are also notorious for jacking up parts rates by 30-50% above the list price. For example, you can get a one button remote for the old RR/Discos for $80 online...Scotts LR charges $120.

Their Overland Adventures are fun though!

That place has a monopoly. It's all about the bling bling with them. Are you sure you quesioned a tech that new English about the sensors?

They basically convinced me to do all my own repairs. It's a nice group of people but they have the Scottsdale attitude that all people do with their Rovers is run down to AJ's for some Grey Poupon and poodle shampoo. I think they screwing themselves by alienating the enthusiast side of the market. I see more Discos down here all the time and AZ is a great place to explore. Talk about missing opportunities!

Guys,
Since Ford has taken over, what do you expect?!?!
The only good thing I can say about Ford is that their crappy products and service got me into Rovers. Then lo and behold a few years later they own the company!! Ford has the worst record in the industry for customer service and repairs. It's bound to rub off on the others under their umbrella. That's why I'm sticking to pre-Ford models and doing all my own work when possible.

Guys,

I stopped taking my vehicle to the Scottsdale branch and drive the extra miles up to the N. Scottsdale branch, partially because my mechanic moved up there. Do this: First, go up to N. Scottsdale and ask for Craig Denny. He is the service guy....the ONLY service guy that I will speak with. Tell them what you need done, and have them go to Joe Caraway or Kevin. I dont know of any of the other service techs work, but these two guys are top notch. Joe is the ONLY tech that I will let work on my car at the dealership, and make sure you tell Craig that too. He does a great job on the work, and is very very thorough.

In addition to taking my truck to the dealership for the warranty items and the required X mile services, I also do work on my own truck though. When you DO talk with Craig, make sure you tell him that I referred you.

BW...glad to hear you made it to Louisiana alright. Sorry to hear about the problems.

Jess,

I know Joe. Your right, he is VERY good at what he does. Too bad he was not the one who worked on mine. I'd have to be desperate now for them to touch it again.

The bad thing is . . . . my drive shaft could shear off any day now. She will have to be towed again. At least this time I will only have to drive TWO hours to retrieve the stump jumper.
