Here’s a short trailer for our upcoming documentary of travels through Australia’s tropical North Queensland in a 1976 Series III Diesel 109. www.drivenxdiscovery.com The trip in itself was incredible. The fact that the landy didn’t totally fall apart is no less so. In effect, she did! It was funny (well, funny, and sort of sobering to realize how close we may have been to being really, really screwed) to see the amount of damage we did in such a short amount of time, and kind of gratifying to know that not many other unmodified vehicles of comparable age would have ever been able to handle such a trip. Well, a land cruiser, maybe. But that’s it. We are hoping to gear this tale of misadventure towards a general adventure oriented audience, as well as having it be a useful resource for people who might be interested in doing this trip for themselves … that is, how NOT to do it. It is, if anything, highly entertaining (or, should I say, will be when editing is completed sometime this June). Granted this little clip isn’t very much to go on, but any comments are welcome. Enjoy, and thanks for looking, mates. Dom drivenbydiscovery productions

Thanks for the positive comments! Well, we tried not to miss anything, but I’m sure there were so many things we did (being stuck in a river for 2 days didn’t help that cause out, either, although it does provide for one amusing tale) But we still have a pretty complete video, and the final version will be sure to entertain! Ok, now to the rest of you, would you just watch it already!!!!! Come on. It’s not that bad! I promise! Dom

Reminds me of some Alby Mangels videos. His adventure bound series was on the Travel channel here in the states for awhile. Anyways, great stuff looking forward to the finished product. |

Ian. That's awesome!!!! I think Peter Moore said it best; "Even if the world isn't all sunken treasure and chamois bikinis, Alby instilled in me a sense of adventure and inspired me to get out and see the world. For that I am eternally grateful." And indeed, this is so true. Alby is pretty much what inspired me to get out there and see the world, and his style is now what I try to emulate in this film (and any future films). I really wish the travel channel would bring back Adventure Bound, but until then, I'll just keep watching the tapes, and going for that dream! Anyway, I just wanted to say you completely made my day with that comment, and I really appreciate it!!!!!! Dom

I grew up on Alby Mangels, we would always pile into the family wagon as kids and head to the local drive-in. I loved the bit with the rubber band powered car (I think it was a beetle - too long ago) I met Alby's nephew in Durban, South Africa, a number of years ago. He was just doing a surfing trek around the place. Had a couple of beers and a few games of stick, talked about his uncle at great length. I'm really looking forward to heading up to that end of QLD. I'm heading off to Fraser Is on Friday morning for a couple of weeks. If I had alot more time I'd love to just keep driving until we got to the top end. You better list to all these frozen adventure deprived readers and let us know when the whole project is finished gtt |

Hey Dom, I wasn't sure if you'd seen Alby or not. I'm glad I taped alot of episodes before the travel channel took it off. I think my favorite episode is when he lands that Cessna Skymaster in a field to help out those chicks in a 109. It looked somewhat staged but it was still great seeing my two obsessions, aviation and rovers, together. Your profile says your from PA..how did you end up in Australia? Oh yeah and did you stumble across any ladies on your jounrey. I always had a laugh watching Alby with the women he picks up. You should e-mail alby about your project. Here's his webpage incase you haven't found it. http://www.macbitz.net.au/safari/ |

Looks great Dom! Can't wait for the hour longe version. Have you given any thought to doing a longer less edited version for sale and then the hour long version you need for TV? Just a thought. I'm jealous of your trip Bill |
