I purchased a used 3rd member and a driveshaft to replace my rotoflex setup for my 96 disco. During the installation, I found that I have to fully extend the driveshaft in order to bolt it to my 3rd member with only a very little slack left in the driveshaft. Do I need an extension? Thanks |

what exactly do you have and where did you get it? is it a used driveshaft from a 88-89 RR or did you buy a 'kit' somewhere? you have to replace the 3 bolt flange on the rear diff with a 4 bolt flange. and of course to do this you have to remove the centralizing peg and so on. have you done all this and are just mating up the new shaft to both ends? did you make sure you puchased a spacer that goes over the pinion in the rear diff? in short there is no need for an 'extension' if you have the right parts. make sure you have everything you need before you go bolting things up. |

Yes i got a kit, to bolt a 88-89 rr rear drive shaft on my 97 disco, the kit came with a 4 bolt flange, a oil seal and a new pinion bolt, this stuff i did and shortly thereafter, ring and pinion shot, no spacer included! oh well, and the difference btwn the disco and 88-89 rr drive shaft length compressed is only about an inch, good luck! and these people on the D web are GOOD!! I thought that the disco require pre-88 for the range rover drive shaft. Can it really be up to 89? So Peter did I read correct that you shot your R&P since you did not use a spacer? Where did you guys get these parts? I am thinking of getting rid of the roto, but am debating if I go HD (GBR ) or with older RR shaft. Bri |

The disco requires a 88 or 89 rrc drive shaft! and the ring and pinion are damaged, since there was no spacer sold or even mentioned to me, even though i described what i was doing, to the rep, the install went fine, no noise at first, but it did come, and loud at that, the inner bearing on the pinion thrust into the ring gear, therefore denting and damaging the ring and pinion, even after installing the spacer, it didn't pull the bearing back into place, rear was noisy and kept blowing oil out the new seal!, You will be fine with a 88-89 rrc shaft and flange, just make sure that you use a spacer! Ron i now have a new 3rd member with a detroit unlocker, and GBR hd drive shafts, now i can get really well stuck! Peter. |

I believe that no matter whom you buy the parts from you will get the correct ones! i think that the vendor which i bought my parts from will never make the same mistake again! so i'm leaving their name out as i will still buy parts from them if they've got the best price! plus i add, i may be getting a refung of some sorts from them soon, i'm mailing out the r+p next week, to see if that will happen!
