Just curious as to whether anyone from Maryland is heading to the ROAV Spring Rallye at Clifton Forge in the GWNF?
Possible caravan from MD?

Im taking an insurance class for the next few weeks, so im out intill the 14th of May. Im gonna run up to Pargon on the 22nd-the 25th with the Baltimore 4-Wheelers and the Shenandoah Valley Club, so that weekend is out for me too. June 6th-8th is the thing up in Winchester (Big Dogs). The following two weekends I will be out of town on Business. July 4th weekend is the off-road event in Beckley, WV. James, how about we plan a trip on the weekend of the 25th of July? My truck may be in one piece then.

What kind of trails are at Douthat State Park? I have never heard of anything down there other than fire roads, but I have never been there either.

I've never been either D. Thought it would be a good opportunity to find some more stuff within reasonable driving distance besides Dry River areas off 33.

Can you pay to become a member at the event? It's only a 1.5 hour drive for me. I would like to see what they have.

I've emailed some questions, including yours Chap, to Bob Steele at ROAV. I'll post responses just as soon as I hear from him.

Ok, here's the response from Bob Steele at ROAV. Looks like campsites can be shared for the $40 so if anyone wants to split the fee and share, let me know.

Hello Jason,

Thank you for writing. Your friends will need to send in payment for membership, along with any campsites you would like to reserve prior to attending. This is a member's only event, thus the need to pay prior. And you may share a site for the $40. fee. Please send all fees by check made out to ROAV, to me at 2033 Buford Road, Bon Air, VA 23235.

No meals, just cooking in camp. The park has a full service restaurant and store for provisions.

As far as trails go, there are very demanding trails there. I am uncertain where you heard news, though it must not be from any of us who have driven these many times before. None of these are fire trails. Some require full recovery and winching even of the best set up vehicles. Thus, the fun.

We will try and weigh the needs of all of our participants and select trails based upon skills levels. Most importantly, what type of vehicle do you drive, do you all have winches and full recovery gear, and what type of undercarriage protection and yres? We will do our best to give you a challenge.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you and your friends will join us in Douthat.

Forge On,

Bob

Jason. I'll split a site with you. Also do you want to follow each other down on Friday? What time will work?

Neal. I can leave any time Friday morning. Convoying is good and we can sort out the details via email.
Have you already registered? If so, I'll give you $20 towards the site. If not, I'll be sending mine in today so I'll go ahead and cover the site.

Been a while since I checked back. My wife and I will be attending the ROAV Ralley. We're going down on Friday from Falls Church. Hopefully there'll be some other folks doing less challenging trails since my '95 Disco is pretty much vanilla.

Hope to see you all there.

See you there George. You'll be surprised at what your "vanilla" Disco is capable of

Thanks Jason for the help you and Neal gave. Yes, I was pretty surprised and learned that the limits were more on me rather than the vehicle!
